6 Premier League free transfers Rangers could sign as retained lists confirmed

Rangers managed to free up funds after releasing five big-hitters from their squad last week.

Manager Philippe Clement insisted he wanted an overhaul this summer and he got that started when the likes of John Lundstram, Borna Barisic and Kemar Roofe all departed. In allowing those to leave, it also provided the club with a chance to bring in a number of new faces to form the core of Clement's new look squad and the Belgian and recruitment chief Nils Koppen are already looking down the line at summer signings they hope to entice.

Oscar Cortes has signed while names such as Damian Garcia and Thomas Galdames have also been linked with possible moves to Glasgow this summer. These players would cost money and transfer fees would be required, but Clement is also smart enough to know the released Premier League player list has been announced and there's a range of talent on there.

Football Scotland has picked out some potential movers to Ibrox before next season and there's certainly some familiar faces.

Oli McBurnie

Officially released by Sheffield United this summer, the Scotland cap is a proven goal scorer in both the EPL and in the Championship. He's a die-hard Gers fan and surely dreams of a move to the club. Had the chance once but may be more likely to take it the second time if offered, and there'll be cash to spend on wages.

Steven Alzate

The 25-year-old was a target back in January according to several reports with his contract expiring this summer, and now that's official. The Brighton midfielder was on loan at Standard Liege last term and featured heavily but now he's ready for a new club. Would be a position Gers want to add with John Lundstram gone as well as Ryan Jack.

Japhet Tanganga

The Tottenham defender was actually a Celtic target back in the infamous Covid season but chose to move to Millwall on loan instead. Gers are wanting a left-sided centre-half as mentioned and at just 25 he's closing in on his prime. If he had as big an impact for Gers as Cameron Carter-Vickers has for their rivals he'd be a steal.

Scott McKenna

Was linked for loan back in January but he moved to Copenhagen instead where he played Champions League. Could be a strong option on that left-side should they try again.

Bobby Decordova-Reid

Rangers want a goal scoring striker to compete with Cyriel Dessers as Danilo remains sidelined and Decordova-Reid is certainly an experienced option. Has been a Fulham stalwart in recent seasons and was still scoring goals up until his release. May be on the older side at 31 but would offer a fresh take up top.

Max Lowe

The defender played for Aberdeen and has knowledge and experience in this division. Would be a decent bit of competition for Jefte should the club look to sell Ridvan Yilmaz and make only profit with Lowe, 27, available for nothing.
