To have a healthy lifestyle, it is important to have healthy habits ingrained into your daily routine instead of just having a couple of months of ‘detox’ plans.

From keeping yourself hydrated to working out regularly, these habits might not show immediate results, but will work towards your well-being over the period of time.

  1. Choose fresh and locally sourced food items. As far as you can, avoid any processed food. Processed food is often high in fat and low in nutrition. Moreover, consume balanced food. If there is any unnecessary meat or oil used, replace it with some fruit or vegetable. Steamed vegetables are healthier than boiled ones. While ghee is one of the superfoods, limit your intake of dairy products like cheese, cream, and milk.

  2. We all know the benefits of drinking water, so it goes without saying that it is important to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day. Water aids in weight loss and can also help your skin from getting dry.

  3. Include quick sessions of yoga and meditation during your busy day. Yoga and meditation can help fight stress and unnecessary thoughts that float in our heads all day long. Just breathing and working on your body can help you centre yourself in the present, rather than thinking about your past and future actions.

  4. Physical wellbeing is as important as your mental wellbeing. One of the main reasons for diseases and ailments is stress, which leads to anxiety and depression. Exercising is a scientifically proven way to release pressure and tension. From a short walk post your meal to a dedicated 45-minute session at the gym, make sure you treat your body well for it to function perfectly as you get older.

  5. Once in a while, make sure that you sit on the ground instead of using a dining table during your meals. Sitting cross-legged helps your digestion, while leaning forward to pick up food naturally massages the pancreas.

  6. The one thing that 2020 taught us was to wash our hands thoroughly and regularly, especially before meals. The 20-second rule applies in most cases.

  7. Use clay pots or iron vessels when cooking meals. In rural parts of India, people still make their food in clay pots as it lets the food maintain all nutrients while distributing equal heat. Non-stick utensils may offer quicker cooking time, but the coating, when mixed with your meals, can be harmful for you in the long run.

  8. This one maybe the most obvious one of the lot, but bathing in the morning not only wakes you up and preps you for the day, but also increases strength, radiance and bestows longevity. It is also said that bathing in the morning gets rid of the nightmares. A quick shower at night before bed is a great way to relax and rinse off the grime of the day. It is also a stimulant for a good night’s sleep.
