Liam Scales has called on Celtic to do all they can to re-sign Adam Idah on a permanent deal.

Football Scotland broke the news last night that Norwich City had booted out a bid of around £4million for the Scottish Cup-winning goal hero. New Canaries boss Johannes Hoff Thorup is excited to work with the 23-year-old and is reluctant to let him go. But Brendan Rodgers has made it clear to the Parkhead board that he sees Idah as a crucial part of his plans this season as negotiations continue.

Scales is close pals with Idah and played alongside the striker during the summer with the Republic of Ireland. And the defender insists Idah's return to the Scottish champions would be hugely welcomed by the Hoops dressing room, where he was a hugely popular figure.

Speaking today, Scales said: "We would love to have him back. He’s a great lad. He’s obviously a brilliant player but to have him in the changing room as well is brilliant. He’s a good guy and he’s funny and we all got on well with him. We'd love to see him back.

"He was massive for us. He scored massive goals and put in massive performances. We would love him back but obviously it’s out of our control. Hopefully it happens."

Scales believes Idah offers a different option to Kyogo as he added: "He’s obviously very different to Kyogo. Kyogo is an amazing, brilliant player but Adam’s got more physicality.

"Kyogo is better playing off people’s shoulders and has scored loads of goals doing that but Adam gives you that sort of option where you can hit his feet and he can hold off the big Scottish defenders that he’s playing against.

"It’s a great outlet for centre halves like me, or centre midfielders, that they can play into him and then get the creative players playing off him as well. That’s probably a strength that he brings, apart from the goals he scores."
