AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

So, it ends 3-0 to Bournemouth. Andoni Iraola's side move 10th after this excellent outing, as they ultimately proved too much for a Brighton side that never really seemed to get going. Bournemouth took control of things with Senesi's close range header in the 13th minute, and this goal ultimately reflected upon a half where the Seagulls were kept grounded by fruitful Cherries pressure complimented by exhausting work on the counter. Despite having more possession, Brighton couldn't capitalise in the offensive third, and were soon ruing offensive stuttering when the hosts made it two goals to the good just after the break. Unal had been dangerous ever since the second period kicked off, and made good on some formative flashes of brilliance to nod home from a lofted Ouattara cross from the left. De Zerbi looked to the bench for inspiration, and nearly found it when Enciso offered a spark of class - yet his curling right-footed effort from range in the 72nd minute was futile before Kluivert notched the game's third goal. Christie assisted the dynamic Dutchman with unadulterated midfield tenacity, and the winger cut back from the right to have Dunk in a daze and Verbruggen helpless as it powered home. Bournemouth ultimately made the most of their pressure and the xG of 2.26 compared to their visitors' xG of 1.00. Going into the final three games, the Cherries will remain cautious after Semenyo picked up a troubling late injury. Their next game is away at Arsenal. Brighton, who now slip to 12th ready themselves for Aston Villa at the Amex. Thank you for joining us, goodbye!

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Semenyo departs on a stretcher. No one likes to see that. Our thoughts are with him, as it seems a lot of time on the sidelines could follow...

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:58

Looking at the challenge back, that could be serious for Semenyo. It wasn't the contact, it was more the way he landed awkwardly on that right foot that jolted his whole leg. Not a positive end to the day that the industrious forward deserves.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:57

There's a late stoppage in play here. Semenyo is on the end of a gnarly Veltman challenge. Just moments earlier, he had taken it to the corner. Perhaps that was a petty revenge act?

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:54

Sadi comes on for Kluivert. He too gets a well-earned round of applause.

Veltman steps up to block this time. That corner was all over the place! Ouattara was on the floor, Kelly and Joao Pedro were having a wrestling match too. Brighton do well to clear the next set-piece instalment.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:47

The corner is nodded out by Dunk and Bournemouth go inbound from the right-sided throw before Dunk again blocks. Corner on the right here...

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:45

Kluivert definitely has a set of wheels on him... He flies on and looks to play Solanke in square. Brighton poke it clear, just behind the onrushing Aarons. The next phase sees Semenyo blocked off for a corner on the left.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:44

After Gross is artfully seen out of play for a Travers goal-kick, Brighton get the ball back. Barco receives on the left, but his cross over is poor and trickles behind.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:42

Enciso wins back possession and feeds Joao Pedro. It's moved inwards to Gilmour before it's worked down the right. Veltman and Enciso exchange on the edge, before the final ball to Welbeck is knocked astray by a Bournemouth leg. Travers gathers gratefully.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:40

Cries for handball ring around the Vitality as Solanke hits a low one on the turn after a dynamic burst from Kluivert. Webster blocks low, but it's gone through his legs and hit a trailing hand. Referee says nothing doing.

Substitution Alex Jay Scott Maximillian James Aarons

Substitution Igor Julio dos Santos de Paulo Adam Harry Webster

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:35

ENCISO! WHAT AN EFFORT! He just sat down two Bournemouth markers there on the edge by dummying a left-footed strike from range. He swivelled to bring it back on his right and it dipped agonisingly wide of the top-right corner!

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:35

Substitution Odeluga Joshua Offiah Joël Ivo Veltman

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:34

Barco, who is on a yellow card by the way, has just taken flight tracking back on Semenyo. He's actually jumped, with two feet off the ground to block the Ghanaian's cross. Luckily, he's missed him mainly, yet the striker is still feeling the force of that one. He's perhaps lucky to still be on the pitch.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:33

Enciso! What an impact that would've been had that gone in! A lovely sequence between Welbeck and Buonanotte sees the latter fire on goal. It's blocked and Enciso stretches to reach it. Alas it pings left of Travers' goal!

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:28

Substitution Enes Ünal Ryan Christie

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:28

Adingra and Gilmour try to take on their own eye-catching interplay after Joao Pedro fires across the face and Brighton rebuild. That final pass is intercepted and cleared before Barco fouls Scott in the breakaway.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:27

Substitution Simon Kofi Adingra Julio César Enciso Espínola

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:26

Solanke and Unal join forces well, dovetailing to see the Turk bring the ball out right after a Solanke surge in the centre. Unal fires a low cross in but it's just too far. Verbruggen claims.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:26

Yellow Card Valentín Barco

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:26

What a passing move! Seriously, it's beautiful football from Iraola's side here, as it's moved up the pitch from a short Travers goal-kick. About six or seven passes down the right lead to Unal slotting in Solanke. Agonisingly, the forward can't control and this blissful training ground fluidity is wasted!

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:24

Dunk flights a ball over from deep on the right after being played back by Offiah. Joao Pedro rises, yet gets under it and his header floats over weakly.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:22

Determined to properly react to the hosts' second goal, Barco flies forward on the left. He puts in a tempting low ball round the corner of the Bournemouth defence. It's cleard by Dunk for a throw. It's worked in-field and Joao Pedro fires a blocked effort before a reworking sees Adingra have a go, forcing an excellent agile stop from Travers!

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:20

Yellow Card Billy Clifford Gilmour

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:13

Unal takes it and although it dips nicely over the wall, it seemed a little too far out to shoot. Verbruggen claims it with relative ease.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:13

The Cherries push on again with Kluivert on the left, and this time the central desired target of Unal is blocked for a corner to the hosts. This comes to nothing though, before a clash sees Kluivert win a Bournemouth free-kick.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:11

Bournemouth are nearly in again but Unal just can't sort his feet out followig an eagle-eyed pass from Semenyo and Brighton clear from their six-yard box!

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:09

Kluivert goes close! Unal plays him in excellently in the left-central channel, yet the dynamic winger can't fire on target and hits the left side-netting! Semenyo was up with him and unmarked on the right too! Could that be a costly mistake?

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:05

Brighton require some rousing words from Roberto De Zerbi at the interval here. Their output has been poor, and their response to Bournemouth's intensity just hasn't cut it. Before this game, the win percentage reflected kindly in the travelling team's favour, with the OPTA super computer alluding to a 40.3 per cent chance of a Seagulls victory. However, after that dismal showing, that sits at just 12 per cent. A draw hovvers at 25.3, yet a Bournemouth victory looks most likely after that opening exchange, with a probability of 63 per cent. Additionally, xG has been found wanting and will have to be improved upon. The Cherries' 1.14 dwarfs their visitors' xG of 0.58, despite De Zerbi's side enjoying more of the ball with 71 - 29 per cent possession.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:02

Bournemouth lead Brighton here at half-time thanks to Marcos Senesi's headed opener from close range in the 13th minute. While a relatively even and scrappy game has broken out in the middle of the Vitality's pitch, it must be said that Bournemouth hold more of an offensive edge. Darting wingplay, mixed with a high press from Iraola's side has put Brighton under a lot of undesired pressure with very little response. Senesi's goal was the result of a corner given away by Lewis Dunk after an adventurous run from Alex Scott. The corner wasn't cleared and the ball popped up nicely for the Argentine to head home with ease. There have been other gilt-edged opportunities, Enes Unal could only drag his effort wide following more smart Scott play before the young Englishman himself could only watch as his on-target effort was deflected over. The away side's best chance came with Facundo Buonanotte, yet the midfielder fired too late to give Mark Travers an easy save down low. With the likes of Adingra and Joao Pedro subdued, Bournemouth look much the more comfortable team heading into the break.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:53

HALF-TIME: BOURNEMOUTH 1-0 BRIGHTON

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:52

It looks like a boisterous Ouattara foul is the last real action here in the first half. It had the potential of a nice interchange down the left with Kluivert, yet the young winger got ahead of himself and went in a little too hard on Offiah.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:50

Joao Pedro looks frustrated out there after a passing move doesn't work out. Perhaps his fellow countryman Igor is a little annoyed too. He flies through the back of Unal to give away a seemingly needless foul on the right side.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:48

Solanke tries his luck from around 25 yards out. It's on target, yet the prolific striker doesn't get enough on the low drive to truly trouble Verbruggen. The Dutchman saves simply down to his bottom right.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:47

The board is up here and the fourth official Michael Salisbury has signalled five minutes of added time.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:46

Kelly fouls Buonanotte and provides a deep free-kick opportunity for the away side on the left. It gets knocked down but is then ultimately wasted as Travers gets a goal-kick.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:44

Bournemouth play a hopeful ball over the back line with Senesi. Unal presses Igor and Semenyo gets it. It's played back into the box for the Turkish striker, yet he's slow getting back onside and Brighton survive.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:43

Brighton have been very hit and miss in this opening half. Adingra's lack of real input has been a telling sign of such. He's just wellied in a poor overhit cross after receiving the ball again following being dispossessed. After his overhit cross, he's in the box to header way over. It was fitting that De Zerbi had his head in his hands just moments before the move. Don't pan the camera to him now...

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:40

Senesi plays in Kluivert on the left and his chipped ball over causes havoc in Brighton's six yard box. Ouattara misses the first effort but fires a header at Dunk and Verbruggen has to claim at his near post.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:37

The resulting corner is cleared by the visitors and as ten minutes remain of this first half, they could do with a response... but it has been all Bournemouth in the last five minutes.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:36

Bournemouth work themselves out of danger smartly with Solanke dropping deep to spark a quick move through the middle. Kluivert tries to slip it through Brighton's back line, yet it's blocked and drops to Scott. He hammers it seemingly on target but Barco gets a block in to send it over!

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:34

Unal drags wide! Following Igor succumbing to the press from Scott, the youngster flies down the right wing before pulling it back for Unal on the edge. The Turkish forward is in acres of space but his effort scurries wide of the left post!

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:33

Gilmour isn't happy with Ouattara. The Scot slides in and his man has left a foot in there. A game of studs or no studs is initiated. Tierney takes control and gives a foul and nothing more.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:32

After that corner was dealt with, Solanke is floored following a collision. We see another short break as the imposing forward is lifting to his feet and returns to play.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:30

Buonanotte could've done better there! He dances through in acres of space and seemingly has an age to shoot... But he leaves it late at the right post and Travers blocks low with ease! Debatably Brighton's best chance so far, especially as the corner gets cleared.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:30

The Gross cross isn't a bad delivery, yet as for much of this opening 27 or so minutes, Brighton just can't make the most of it as it drops. Mark O’Mahony's swivelled shot trickles wide right tamely.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:28

The right-back's run is holted by Ouattara and Gross looks to whip this one in from a decent position on the right.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:27

In comparison, Brighton have lost three of their last five Premier League games played on a Sunday (W2), more than they had in their previous 18 (W10 D6 L2). Why am I talking about Sundays? Well, it's got a bit scrappy again here... Brighton looking comfortable in possession as Offiah carries forward.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:26

Weirdly, Bournemouth have lost 67.5 per cent of their Premier League games played on Sunday (27/40). That's the highest loss rate for any team to have played more than ten Sunday games in the competition’s history. I doubt De Zerbi was checking the calendar before this one, but still.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:24

Offiah has impressed so far. He stops a Solanke sprint down the left side after the home side build back from sustained pressure. Offiah wins the tackle and then uses his body well before jinking forward himself. Unfortunately, just that final pass is missing.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:23

Brighton are working the ball nicely here, just seemingly trying to map out a way through. Every time it comes into the box though, Bournemouth have been resolute so far.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:21

Young Offiah is a bundling threat down the right, but his cross is poor and too hard. It's controlled by Semenyo and there's some hopeful penalty shouts for handball. It's calmly ignored but it did look to strike the Ghanaian international's arm there...

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:18

Cook has been dealt with, and the game is slowly eeking back into life.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:18

Brighton receive some boos here form the home crowd. Cook makes a good challenge on Barco, yet the next one on Adingra finds the Bournemouth man on the floor holding his left shoulder. The medical staff are on to see to what could be a dislocation...

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:14

Goal Marcos Nicolás Senesi Barón

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:14

The Bournemouth corner is an odd one to tell the truth. It's played backwards and a ball is then floated over deep from the right. Dunk scorpion flicks it behind for another corner, this time on the left.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:14

Unal bursts onward down the right side after being played in by Scott. He slides a low ball to Solanke, but he's blocked off by Dunk. There's big appeals for a handball, yet Tierney is happy with a corner for the hosts on the right. Debate ensues.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:11

Dunk has been floored here and rightly so. Unal tries to pass through the big man's legs and it's hit him in a far from pleasant area. Take a breather mate... Collective winces all round.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:10

At the Vitality Stadium this season, Bournemouth have secured 24 points (W6 D6 L5) from a possible 51 on offer in 17 Premier League contests. As mentioned earlier, the Cherries are in the midst of a five-match home unbeaten streak (W3 D2 L0) dating to March 9 against Sheffield United.

Yellow Card Marcos Nicolás Senesi Barón

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:08

While Bournemouth dealt with Brighton's dangerous Adingra, it's worth looking at their own threat. The form of Solanke has been crucial for Bournemouth this season. The striker leads the club with 18 goals, which is the fourth highest among the league's top scorers in 2023/2024. Intriguingly, nine of his goals have been the critical first of the match. Could we see more that quick on the draw action today?

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:07

Adingra drives forward down the left for the first time this afternoon. It's promising but is immediately snuffed out.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:06

Barco tries to surge forward in the middle of the park. Scott chops him down in slightly cynical fashion. Free-kick to the visitors.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:04

Semenyo gets fed in on the right by Solanke. He fires a low cross but it's cleared comfortably by Brighton's defence.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:04

Brighton win an early free-kick here on the right side. Just inside the Bournemouth half. Gross curls it in and Igor meets it after it flies through the men in red and black. It ricochets off his knee and goes out for a goal-kick on the right.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

When the two sides last met in Premier League action, Brighton came out on top 3-1 at American Express Stadium in September. Kaoru Mitoma led the Seagulls with goals in the 46th and 77th minute. They also were the beneficiaries of an own goal by the Cherries' Milos Kerkez. Dominic Solanke scored the Cherries' only goal in the 25th minute. In recent times, Brighton have got the better of Bournemouth with wins in three straight encounters, dating to February 2023. The Seagulls have outscored the Cherries 6-1 during their winning streak.

Good afternoon, welcome to this live text commentary of mid-table action between Bournemouth and Brighton. As the end of the season draws closer, these two teams are looking to push into the Premier League’s top ten after comfortably securing another season in England’s top flight. Given Wolves’ win over Luton yesterday, Gary O’Neil’s side have moved into 10th on 46 points. However, a win for either of the two teams today could see the Molineux side leapfrogged with three games left to go. With Brighton’s recent poor run of form (W1 D2 L3), De Zerbi’s group will be looking to make a positive change and end the season on a high. It’ll be difficult given Bournemouth’s recent efforts (W3 D1 L2), especially considering that Andoni Iraola’s Cherries are in the midst of a fine five-match home unbeaten streak (W3 D2 L0).
