Alan Brazil challenged to England and Scotland forfeit at Euro 2024 – by Chesney Hawkes

Alan Brazil found himself in a rather odd wager over Euro 2024 with pop icon Chesney Hawkes.

The ex-Scotland forward is facing up to the consequences after critiquing Hawkes' recent track, which is an ode to England star Jude Bellingham, reworking 'Hey Jude' to celebrate the midfielder. The song penned by Hawkes includes the lyric: "Nearly 60 years of pain, hey Jude, we place a nation's hope upon your shoulders."

Brazil was less than impressed, branding the song "murder", but word got back to the 'The One and Only' hitmaker. This prompted Hawkes to challenge Brazil, potentially setting up an embarrassing moment for the talkSPORT host if England go all the way at Euro 2024.

On Thursday's show, Brazil extended an olive branch to Hawkes and shared that talkSPORT had been contacted by the singer, who proposed a forfeit for the host. "Good morning Alan. Firstly I'm sure after last night the last thing you want is sympathy from Chesney Hawkes - but here I am giving it," Hawkes said..

"So, I was listening yesterday when you described my fun little social media post of Hey Jude as 'murder' and you also said you could do it better. Well, that sounds like a throwdown of a challenge to me so I'm looking forward to you showing us you can come up with a stronger, better version of the song and sing it as well. Because I've heard you sing mate and it is beautiful."

In a playful challenge, the singer suggested a wager to Brazil: "So how about if England win the Euros, you come up with your own lyrics and sing it on air, and in return, if Scotland manage to scramble a third-place qualification out of the group, you can throw me down a forfeit. Put your money where your mouth is Alan, come on - if you've got any left after Royal Ascot this week."

Fresh from their draw with Switzerland, Scotland could escape a tournament group stage for the first time with a crucial win over Hungary (Sunday, 8pm). Meanwhile, England are a win away from sealing their place in the knockout rounds but are a long way off reaching the final.

After hearing Hawkes’ dare, Brazil responded: "The money's down Chesney, don't you worry about that pal. You're on, you're on. It was a bit of fun, it was just a bit of Chesney round the piano wasn't it? ".

"Having a bit of fun, changing it. I'm only kidding Chesney. Nah, he's a good guy, loves his football - a big listener. The moose (talkSPORT's Ian Abrahams) pesters him all the time, poor guy. Chesney, we have a bet."
