Alan Hansen’s family has sent a message to supporters after the Liverpool legend was released from hospital.

Hansen had been admitted to hospital earlier this month, with a Liverpool statement confirming the 69-year-old had fallen seriously ill.

The news led to messages of support from the likes of Gary Lineker and Jamie Carragher. Hansen’s former teammate Graeme Souness delivered a welcome update last week when he revealed he had spoken to him on the phone, with the former Reds captain sounding ‘fabulous’.

Hansen’s family has now confirmed he has been released from hospital, and delivered a thank you message for the support received.

A statement from Hansen’s family released by Liverpool said: “Alan has been discharged from hospital today to continue his recovery at home.

“Alan, Janet, Adam, Lucy and family would like to thank everybody for their wonderful messages of love and support. It has been overwhelming and has helped enormously.

“We also hugely appreciate the ongoing respect that has been shown for our privacy as Alan continues his recovery. Thank you.”

Hansen is one of Liverpool’s most celebrated players of all time, having made 620 appearances for the club, winning eight league titles and three European Cups in the process. Following his playing career, he went on to become one of the most prominent pundits on UK television, regularly appearing on Match of the Day.
