Albert Sambi Lokonga: Arsenal’s versatile new signing reveals best position after £15m transfer completed
New Arsenal signing Albert Sambi Lokonga has outlined his versatility and revealed his consensus best position after joining from Anderlecht.
The highly-rated 21-year-old Belgian midfielder became Mikel Arteta’s second signing of the summer transfer window to date on Monday afternoon after completing a switch to Emirates Stadium worth £15million plus add-ons.
Arsenal are understood to view Lokonga as a player with huge future potential who is also capable of making an impact straightaway after getting plenty of senior experience under his belt during more than a decade at Anderlecht, where he rose through the youth system before making his first-team debut as a teenager back in 2017 and going on to wear the captain’s armband.
Lokonga’s versatility should be a big asset to Arteta, with the former Belgium Under-21 international able to operate in front of the back four or as more of a roving, box-to-box midfielder.
But in which posistion does he feel the most comfortable?
“I can play both,” Lokonga told Arsenal’s official website.
“I can play as a six and I can play like a box to box, but people say that I’m better in the six position.”
Lokonga’s arrival at Arsenal should be promptly followed by that of Ben White, with a deal in principle worth £50m agreed with Brighton for the England centre-back earlier this week.
