Arsenal legend Thierry Henry gave Albert Sambi Lokonga an insight into the “mentality” required to be a success at the club following the midfielder’s summer transfer.

The Gunners paid an initial £15million for the Belgian as Mikel Arteta looked to improve his midfield’s creativity, with the 21-year-old impressing for Anderlecht in recent seasons.

Lokonga earned his first call-up to his country’s senior squad in March, shortly before Henry’s return as assistant coach, and the player has since been able to pick the brains of the former striker.

On speaking to Henry, he told the club’s media: “Not before I joined because I was with him for only two days and then I left the camp with the national team.

“He gave me some advice about Arsenal, the way the people are, the mentality I need to have. Some little things like that.”

Lokonga made his Belgium debut in September but missed out on a spot in Roberto Martinez’s squad for the current international break, which saw the Red Devils finish fourth in the Nations League finals.

Since arriving in North London, he has made seven appearances including a 90-minute display against Brighton last time out.

Mikel Arteta is set to pick between Lokonga, Mohamed Elneny and a potential return for Granit Xhaka when Premier League action resumes against Crystal Palace on Monday night.
