Alex Chambers Says She Blew Out Her Knee in Paige VanZant Fight

UFC Free Fight Video: Paige VanZant Subs Alex Chambers

Alex Chambers went into her UFC 191 bout with Paige VanZant looking to disrupt the red-hot youngster's climb up the strawweight charts. She instead suffered a defeat and a blown out knee.

VanZant was a heavy favorite going into the fight with Chambers, and for good reason. She has been lighting up everyone she's fought in the Octagon, and she did the same to Chambers.

Not making excuses, Chambers, however, said on Tuesday that she suffered a blown out knee in the fight with VanZant, which affected how she had planned to fight.

“It was a tough, hard fight,” said Chambers. “Unfortunately, early in the second round, I blew my knee and it changed my game plan and what I could do.”

Early in the third frame, after pummeling Chambers with punches and tossing her several times with hip throws throughout the bout, VanZant secured an armbar for the submission finish. The victory moved VanZant to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the Octagon, while Chambers dropped to 5-3, having lost two out of three fights under the UFC banner.

Chambers gave no details on her rehabilitation nor a time frame for her return.
