Real Sociedad will be entitled to 10 per cent of any profit Newcastle United make on Alexander Isak this summer, dealing Chelsea a potential problem.

The Blues were linked with a move for the Swedish striker on Wednesday, with The Daily Mail stating a deal could end up costing £115m to bring Isak to Stamford Bridge.

Were this to be the case, Newcastle would be in line to bank a significant profit on a player they paid £63m for just two years ago.

The Magpies will not be in line to secure all of this money, however, due to Real Sociedad including a 10 per cent sell-on clause as part of the agreement for Isak to head to St James' Park.

A latest report by El Diario Vasco has explained Sociedad are "attentive" to the situation and are hopeful a big-money deal could be on the cards this summer as they prepare for a financial boost.

The Spanish club's sell-on agreement entitles them to 10% of profit from a future sale, ensuring they would receive £5.2 of the £52m profit Newcastle would make from a sale of £115m.

Such a clause will come as bad news for Chelsea as Newcastle will likely continue to drive up Isak's price to offset the funds due to head the way of the Swede's former employers.

Manager of the Magpies, Eddie Howe, has repeatedly stressed he has no desire to sell his star player this summer but it remains to be seen if that stance changes if Chelsea come in with an offer.

Discussing Isak in April, Howe remarked: “For me, I think the biggest thing is would I swap him with anybody else? No, I wouldn’t. When you look at his age profile and what’s to come, you look at his attributes and his qualities, he’s some talent.

"I think we should just enjoy his performances, how he’s playing at the moment. He’s full of confidence, he looks physically in a really good place and I just think it’s a great thing to watch him play currently.”
