Alto's Logan Rogers sits atop NAIA rankings in men's decathlon

Apr. 1—SHAWNEE, Okla. — Some athletes are blessed in that they can do one thing well, while others are able to excel at multiple disciplines.

Alto High School-product Logan Rogers is the epitome of the latter.

The Texas Wesleyan University freshman set a new personal record (6084 points) while competing in men's decathlon at the Oklahoma Baptist University Invitational in Shawnee, Okla. late last week.

Rogers' score also set a new Texas Wesleyan school record and vaulted him to No. 1 in the nation on the NAIA's performance list — Rogers is 36 points in front of the runner-up Ricardo Smith of Brescia University in Kentucky.

Decathlon is comprised of 10 track and field events that are completed over a two-day period. Competitors receive points in each event and the person with the highest aggregate score is the winner.

On Friday, Rogers won first place in the 100 meter dash and in the 400 meter run and came in third in long jump.

He won first place in javelin and posted runner-up finishes in the 110 meter hurdles and in the 1,500 meter run to highlight his efforts on Saturday.

Rogers was an outstanding multi-sport athlete at Alto where he was the Class 2A state runner-up in the 300 meter hurdles in 2022.

During his days as a Yellowjacket he garnered most valuable player accolades in football, baseball and track and field.

Rogers also took part in golf and tennis while in high school.

Texas Wesleyan track and field will be taking part in the North Texas Classic in Denton Saturday.
