TWO days, three races and three gold medals.

Dave Gill’s weekend could not have gone any better as the Warrington Athletics Club veteran added a trio of medals to his collection.

On Saturday, he won a brace of gold medals at the Northern Masters Championships in Leigh as he came top of the over 65s category in both the 800m and 3,000m races.

Immediately afterwards, he undertook the long trip to Kent to compete in the North Downs 30km trail race, which incorporated the British Masters 30k multi-terrain Championships, looking for his fifth gold medal in the event.

Having completed the course in 2hours 32mins 9secs, that is exactly what he did as he emerged victorious in the over 65s age group while placing 90th in the race overall.

In all, Gill's was one of 10 medals won by Warrington AC members in Leigh on Saturday, with an over 60s "one-two" in the 3,000m as Steve Watmough (10mins 1.852secs) took gold ahead of clubmate Dave Norman (11mins 20.66secs).

Over the same distance, Dave Watson took the bronze medal in the over 50s age group by clocking 10mins 12.44secs.

Husband-and-wife duo Phil and Julie Hicken claimed three golds between them - the former in the over 60s age group 400m with a time of 75.84secs while the latter won both the 100m (15.13secs) and 200m (31.48secs) in the same age group.

Elsewhere, several club members represented Warrington Schools at the Cheshire Minor Schools Championships in Macclesfield.

Two gold medals were won, with Leah Poole victorious in the girls’ long jump with a leap of 4.13m while Louis Green won the boys’ high jump by clearing 1.43m.

There was also a bronze medal for Grace Rashud over 1,500m as she clocked a time of 5mins 31.2secs.

Other impressive performances came from Lula Ashworth, who finished third in her girls’ 100m heat in 14.4secs before running 0.1secs faster in the final to finish sixth.

Harry Millar and Eddie Walker both raced in the boys’ 1,500m, finishing eighth and 10th respectively in times of 5mins 19.8secs and 5mins 30.5secs.

Meanwhile, three Warrington runners competed at Trafford AC’s distance Grand Prix with two of them recording new personal bests.

That was the case for Joshua Pryor, who finished third in the second under 15s boys’ 800m in 2mins 21.21secs.

Over 1,500m, Jack Wadsworth finished fourth in Race Two by clocking 4mins 1.64secs while in Race Five, Sebastian Hampson of the under 17s age group posted a new best time of 4mins 39.34secs to finish sixth.

Further afield in Barrowford, Warrington AC masters athlete Steve Watmough was in action at the Podium 5km road race.

Running in Race Two, he finished in 50th place in a time of 17mins 54secs.
