Andy Carroll Claims West Ham Players 'Love' Playing at London Stadium Despite Awful Start to Season

Andy Carroll has insisted that West Ham's players are delighted to be playing home matches at the Olympic Stadium, despite their terrible start to the season.

The Hammers striker told the club's official website that moving from Upton Park to the 60,000-seater stadium was "fantastic" for everyone concerned.

West Ham have won just one home league match at their new ground during a run of form that saw them fall to 18th position in the Premier League table, with supporters questioning why the club had to relocate from their former home.

The Irons managed to arrest a run of four straight league defeats with a 1-1 home draw against Middlesbrough before the international break, but West Ham fans made their feelings known on their new stadium with chants throughout the encounter.

In spite of such opinions, however, Carroll claims that his fellow first-team players can't wait for their next home match.

He said: “It has been fantastic for us moving into the new stadium and it is great for the club. I know there have been a lot of discussions about the move, but the players love it.

“It is one of the biggest grounds in England and it is great for us to have that and have it being part of the club.

“Obviously the results have not been going our way and we have not been performing but I cannot wait to get back out there.”

Carroll has missed the entirety of the 2016/17 campaign thus far after picking up a knee injury during West Ham's Europa League 2nd leg clash with Astra Giurgiu, but is expected to make his return against Crystal Palace on October 15.

The England international has already played at West Ham's new arena during a friendly match against Juventus in July. And the 26-year-old forward revealed that he is eager to make up for lost time and make his first league appearance at the London Stadium in the coming weeks.

He added: “My recovery is going well. I am working hard in the gym and everything is going well. Hopefully soon I will be back in action.

“I can't wait to play my first league game at the new stadium. I scored two goals against Juventus and would love to score a lot more there.”
