Andy Rojas Celtic transfer fight faced as rival bidder makes first move

A rival bidder has made the first move for Costa Rica attacker as Celtic face a battle to land him.

The Hoops' interest in the 18-year-old wonderkid emerged over the weekend and Football Scotland exclusively revealed the fee they can expect to pay. Rojas plays for Herediano in his homeland, where he was a teammate of Hearts' Kenneth Vargas, and is currently in Copa America with his country.

But that hasn't stopped teams enquiring for his services with his club revealing teams from Spain, Portugal, Belgium and the US have been in contact. And the only concrete offer hasn't come from the Scottish champions, but from Portugal, with Herediano waiting until after Copa America to resolve their player's future.

Vice-president Aquil Ali said: "At the moment, the only proposal we have received is an offer from Portugal that we are reviewing. We are also obviously waiting for Andy to return after the Copa America has finished.

"There is interest and we are waiting. Many clubs make their moves after the Copa América and so we are going to wait. Several clubs from Spain, Portugal and Belgium have asked too, as well as from the MLS, although we would prefer the footballer to go to Europe.

"It's not about disparaging MLS or anything like that, but we want to try to get Andy Rojas into Europe and have a sell-on clause in case of a second sale. We are looking for a league similar to the ones in Belgium and Portugal and then he can make the jump to a stronger one."
