Andy Walker has told Brendan Rodgers where he feels Celtic must strengthen this summer - as he demanded his old club use the Champions League as their measuring stick.

The Hoops will have big signing plans with Joe Hart preparing to hang up his gloves and other positions needing strengthened that perhaps were not in January. And Walker believes they should be targeting big-hitters in the next window to ensure they compete at European football's top table as that is the only real marker of improvement.

Walker knows more than most that beating Rangers to the league title or treble is as vital to the punters as anything. But, speaking on GO Radio, he hopes the club spend a bit of money to improve their squad and give themselves a chance at the cash on offer for Euro victories.

"They need a centre-back in my opinion and a goalkeeper," Walker said. "They need a few players to be in with a realistic chance of getting two victories in the Champions League. Celtic should be measuring themselves in European competition, they've been so dominant at home for so long.

"I know it's important for every fan to be top dogs and keep Rangers second and below them but Celtic should be looking to do better in Europe and that's where they should be trying to improve this summer."
