Tottenham fans will be hoping to see a fair bit of Troy Parrott in pre-season after an excellent campaign with Excelsior Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Having struggled for goals in his time at Preston North End after only managing four in 34 appearances, the 22-year-old beat that tally by some distance after notching 17 goals for the Dutch side.

Seven of those goals came in an incredible three-game run as Excelsior fought to stay in the Eredivisie after finishing 16th. Scoring a hat-trick in their play-off semi-final second leg win over ADO Den Haag, the Republic of Ireland international then converted a penalty in their play-off final tie against NAC Breda before hitting another hat-trick against the same opponents five days later.

Unfortunately Parrott's heroics were not enough to keep Excelsior in the top flight after a 7-6 aggregate defeat. Now set to return to Tottenham's training base at the beginning of July, supporters are desperate to see the Irishman make his case to Ange Postecoglou in the team's pre-season friendlies going on Spurs' need to bring in another frontman.

Another striker currently at the club will also be looking to make his mark this summer. That man is of course Dane Scarlett, who endured a rather disappointing loan spell with Ipswich Town before returning to Tottenham in January for the remainder of the season.

Opportunities were extremely few and far between for Scarlett at Portman Road, with the 20-year-old restricted to 12 appearances off the bench in the Championship. His participation in Tottenham's Carabao Cup defeat at Fulham in late August unfortunately stopped him from playing a part in Ipswich's cup campaign and he had to watch on from the sidelines at a time when Kieran McKenna would shuffle his pack.

Had Scarlett and Tottenham held on for slightly longer, opportunities with the Tractor Boys may have been there for Scarlett prior to the arrival of strikers Ali Al-Hamadi and Kieffer Moore late in the January window in wake of George Hirst's injury. The Tottenham hotshot did go on to make six appearances for Spurs following his return, with his 15-minute cameo in May's 2-1 home win over Burnley his longest time on the pitch.

Scarlett did in fact play a key role in that victory after a nice bit of movement created space for Micky van de Ven to stroke in the winner. Currently away in Croatia with England's Elite League Squad for two games against Sweden and Republic of Ireland, Scarlett was on the scoresheet on Friday in a 2-1 win over the Swedes.

Despite going to ground under pressure from an opponent, the former Portsmouth loanee managed to get back to his feet, use his strength to hold off another defender and produce a neat turn before firing into the bottom corner. It was just a glimpse of what Scarlett can offer in the final third.

Very much in a position where he needs to feature more regularly, Tottenham have an important decision to make over Scarlett ahead of the summer transfer deadline. Another loan move is a no-brainer, especially after the striker was restricted to 20 appearances in all competitions last season at a time when he was expected to build on the 40 appearances and six goals he scored the previous year during his time at Fratton Park.

As is always the case with clubs across the country when it comes to loaning youngsters out, it is about finding the perfect loan team for their player and them returning much better for the experience. Parrott's loan move to Excelsior Rotterdam was a huge success, with Josh Keeley's loan move to Barnet and Matthew Craig's time with Doncaster also proving to be very beneficial.

Two of Tottenham's youngsters in Alfie Devine and Ashley Phillips spent the second half of the season on loan with Plymouth Argyle in the Championship. For Devine, he made such an impression with Port Vale in League One during the opening months of the season but he found life in the Championship a bit more of a challenge and unfortunately spent a spell on the bench.

He did return to the starting XI on the final day of the campaign and impressed in a 1-0 win over Hull City that saw the Devon club clinch Championship safety, though. Phillips, on the other hand, built on his limited Championship appearance with Blackburn Rovers and became an automatic starter at the back for Plymouth.

He did drop out of the team in two of the team's games in April but he was back in the side for that vital win over Hull City. Given Scarlett's lack of opportunities with Ipswich at the top of the Championship and the need for him to aid his development by featuring more regularly, Spurs do have an important call regarding where exactly they send the player.

A move to the Championship or even a side challenging at the top of League One would appear to be the obvious choice, but even a move abroad certainly cannot be ruled out going on Parrott's success in the Netherlands. Providing that Scarlett is still at Tottenham deep into July, the youngster will be intent on making his mark in pre-season and catching the eye of Postecoglou with friendlies against Hearts and QPR on the calendar before the team head abroad to Japan and South Korea.

As big as the decision is over what comes next for Parrott after his standout year in the Netherlands, Spurs also have a huge call to make over Scarlett after a campaign that promised so much failed to deliver.
