Another victory for the 'Major' makes it lucky 13

Bolton boxer Khaleel Majid proved he has what it takes to become a champion one day with yet another victory in front of his home crowd in Bolton.

Majid, a 27-year-old super lightweight, beat opponent Alin Florin Ciorceri live Channel 5 at the Toughsheet Stadium recently.

It is now 13 straight wins as a professional in the bag for the Heaton-born fighter under Eddie Hearn’s Wasserman Boxing, and on home turf Majid had the entire room full of his own supporters.

He said: “It was a hard fight, but it felt amazing, and it felt like a long while being out of action, but it feels good for home support and I cannot thank the crowd enough.

“It was a very loud crowd, especially because everyone came to get behind me and it definitely pushed me when it became tough at some point.”

On the night against the Sapin-based Romanian, Majid did not falter and won 80-73 on points in a bout on the undercard for Lyndon Arthur and Liam Cameron’s battle for the WBA Intercontinental light heavyweight title.

‘Major’ Majid said: “The fight got tough, and it looked like my opponent was going to win and it was a big opportunity for him as well.

“But I didn’t give up and I did what I had to do and won.

“The atmosphere when I won was electric, I could just feel the energy in the room and I honestly do not think the people, the fans, could be any better.

“Thank you for the support from my coaches, for believing in me and to the people of Bolton who keep supporting me which helps me in getting these opportunities as well.

“It would be great for me to headline a show sometime soon and I also want to say a big thank you to Wasserman staff for everything they do as well.”

It was a first outing for Majid since his knockout triumph against Tom Farrell in Liverpool last October - one of four knockouts out of his 13 victories.

He is now looking to the future and says he is ‘ready’ for the next step in his boxing career.

He said: “It has put me in good stead, and I am ready for the next step and should get some news within the next week or two and hopefully a main event in Bolton, which I would love to do.
