Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon has openly expressed his desire for England colleague Marc Guehi to make the switch to St. James' Park in the upcoming transfer window.

The Crystal Palace defender impressed during his first major tournament appearance for England in their victory against Serbia at Euro 2024. Despite this being only his 12th appearance for the national team, the Chelsea-trained defender was instrumental in securing a clean sheet, stepping up after Harry Maguire was left out of the squad due to injury.

The 23-year-old centre-back's performances have not gone unnoticed, with Newcastle among the clubs reportedly interested in securing his services. Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool are also said to be in the running after Guehi contributed to Crystal Palace's strong finish under manager Oliver Glasner.

Gordon, who has shared the pitch with Guehi in England's Under-21s team, praised the defender during. He believes that Guehi would be a valuable addition to the Magpies, who have already signed Lloyd Kelly but missed out on Tosin Adarabioyo this summer, with the defender joining Chelsea after his contract at Fulham expired.

"He is top," Gordon said. "He's such a good player. I was glad the nation got to see him shine on that stage because he is such a lovely guy, and he deserves what is coming to him," he told talkSPORT (via the Mirror).

"I thought he was unbelievable in that game, considering his height compared to the strikers they had on. He won every header, he was aggressive, intercepting loads, and his main strength is his composure on the ball, he's like a midfielder, so him and Stones at the back is a great partnership.

"I haven't seen the Newcastle links, but it goes without saying I would love him to come, as I think he's a top, top player and he would make us a better team."

A ballpark figure of £65million is reportedly being bandied about for securing Guehi's skills, and it seems Gordon isn't the only one impressed by this English defender. His prowess didn't escape Jude Bellingham, who sang praises of the player after Friday's match against Serbia.

Bellingham said: "He was brilliant. Brilliant. He picked the lines amazingly. He led against two, for me, really good centre-forwards at this level in [Dusan] Vlahovic and [Aleksandar] Mitrovic, two really, really tricky customers. It will help a lot when he has [John] Stones beside him, one of the best around. He was fantastic."
