Anthony Johnson Skips Jon Jones, Calls Out Daniel Cormier

UFC president Dana White may be contemplating a fight between Anthony Johnson and Jon Jones when the beleaguered interim champion returns to the Octagon, but Johnson wants none of it. He wants a rematch with the champ, Daniel Cormier.

“DC, I want to fight you in New York City on Nov 12. We got 7.5 weeks to get ready and put on a fight for the fans of New York and the world to remember. It is our time to do battle!” Johnson declared on Facebook.

Johnson made his case for the fight by reminding everyone that he and Jones were originally supposed to fight for the belt at UFC 187 in May of 2015. Jones, however, landed in hot water over a felony hit-and-run accident in Albuquerque, N.M. Johnson accepted Cormier as a short-notice replacement, losing the fight, and his claim to the belt. Jones had been stripped of the title prior to the fight, and Cormier walked away with the victory and UFC light heavyweight championship around his waist.

“When Jon got into trouble and was removed from my title fight, I accepted you as an opponent on 3 weeks notice despite the dramatic change in fight style. You were the better man that night and took the belt,” recounted Johnson.

“I didn't demand an immediate rematch, it was well within my rights to do so. I went to the back of the line and fought my way back to the front.”

Despite a marquee fight with Jones possibly in the offing, Johnson doesn't want it, he wants the rematch he has worked so hard for.

“To headline the the event in Maddison Square Garden is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Let's do it! Balls in your court Daniel,” he wrote.

“Enough of this waiting game that you or UFC is playing!”
