Antonio Rudiger tears into 'stupid' Chelsea after Leicester defeat and criticises lack of 'mentality'

Antonio Rudiger condemned Chelsea’s lack of ‘mentality’ following their defeat to Leicester City.

The Blues suffered their third league defeat in six matches at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon with Jamie Vardy’s fine finish the only goal of the game.

The loss leaves Chelsea 11 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, with Maurizio Sarri admitting post-match it will be “impossible” for his side to close the gap.

And Rudiger insisted Chelsea do not deserve to be considered title contenders given their current form.

“For us in this situation, in the table, it is a disaster,” he told BBC Sport.

“With respect [to Leicester] if we cannot win these type of games, we cannot compete.

“It is simple, these teams know how to fight, they are killers. One chance, one goal today. Against Wolves, two chances, two goals. Simple.

“It's a lack of mentality, I don't know.”

When asked if his side were perhaps just unlucky having struck the woodwork on Saturday, he added: "Not clinical enough and just stupid.”

Chelsea return to action on Boxing Day away to Watford, who have moved up to seventh after two wins on the bounce.
