Anything Could Have Happened From Test One – Ravi Shastri Defends His Book Launch

Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has defended his book launch claiming that the whole country was open and anything could have happened right from the first Test. Shastri tested positive during the final days of the Oval Test along with two other coaching staff members.

Shastri and Virat Kohli attended a book launch during the middle of the series. He tested positive along with bowling coach, Bharat Arun, and fielding coach, R Sridhar. Although there isn’t a perfect timeline to suggest when he contracted the virus, many English news columns blamed the book launch.

Things took a turn for the worse when junior physiotherapist, Yogesh Parmar, also returned positive results in his RT-PCR test. The Indian team had been in close contact with him and they were apprehensive about playing the final Test. Therefore, the two boards decided to cancel the match altogether.

“The whole country [United Kingdom] is open. Anything could have happened from Test One. It’s been the best summer of cricket England has seen in a long time certainly from an Indian cricket team. It’s Covid times, awesome summer though. The boys were fantastic on either side of the Thames,” Shastri was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.

The head coach didn’t let the covid outbreak dampen the results from their recent away tours. He further went on to add that he was extremely satisfied with the way the team played. India beat Australia 2-1 earlier in the year and also leads England by the same margin until the last Test in Manchester was cancelled.

“No team played in Covid times like this Indian team did in Australia and England. Just ask the experts here. Nothing has given me more job satisfaction in the game and I have been around for a bit as you would know,” Ravi Shastri added.

The players returned negative results in their Covid tests and have moved out to the UAE where they will participate in the IPL 2021.
