Harry Kane toasts Tottenham's derby triumph as Arsenal are put to the sword

Harry Kane challenges Tottenham to improve on best Premier League season next time out

Harry Kane hailed an unforgettable North London Derby after he scored the final goal against Arsenal at White Hart Lane as Tottenham secured an emphatic 2-0 win.

Two days after Spurs confirmed their temporary stay to Wembley next season before they move into their new ground next door to the Lane Mauricio Pochettino’s side rose to the occasion in a dominant display against their rivals.

A three minute burst just after half-time secured a victory that Tottenham had deserved from the first second to the last as first Dele Alli pounced on the rebound from a Christian Eriksen shot as both players redeemed themselves for wasting simple chances in the opening period.

Moments later Kane took advantage of slack defending by Gabriel, who carelessly left a leg out for the Spurs striker to fall over. Hammering home a perfectly placed penalty only added to an unforgettable day for the 23-year-old.

“We obviously wanted to finish the last north London derby here on a high note and we did that,” Kane told Sky Sports. “We worked hard, we created the better chances.

“What a day! A great weekend for us.”

Gabriel had reacted with astonishment to Michael Oliver awarding the penalty, which Kane slammed against the left post as Cech remained static.

"It was a penalty for me,” Kane said. I was clipped, it was a foul.

“I went down the middle earlier in the season against Arsenal which is probably why Petr Cech stayed there this time.”

As to whether the importance of a victory that ensured they would finish above Arsenal for the first time since 1995 Kane insisted the Spurs squad were focused on bigger things.

“We're only thinking about the title race - the fans having bragging rights is just an added bonus.”
