Liverpool’s full 2024/25 fixture list has just become clearer following the Football League’s fixture release days on Wednesday.

The Reds already found out their full Premier League schedule on Tuesday 18 June, with their Football League counterparts having to wait a further week to find out their full fixture list.

Dates for this season’s Champions League and FA Cup had already been confirmed, with Liverpool knowing how they would fall into schedule as a result. But Arne Slot’s side now know dates for this season’s League Cup campaign after the Football League released them along with its own members’ league fixtures.

The Reds are the reigning holders of the League Cup after defeating Chelsea in last year’s final, and have won the competition more times than any other side. Consequently, they will be looking to win the tournament for a record 11th time in what would offer Slot his first chance of silverware after succeeding Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout.

Due to their participation in the Champions League, Liverpool won’t enter the League Cup until the third round. And with fixtures split across two dates, their own tie will take place the midweek containing Wednesday 25 September in the second week of third round fixtures.

The fourth round is scheduled for Wednesday 30 October, days after the Reds have travelled to Arsenal in the Premier League, with the quarter-finals then taking place on Wednesday 18 December to kick-off a hectic festive period.

Two-legged semi-finals still exist, despite Klopp’s previous criticism of them. But with the Champions League group-stages now extended to eight matchdays, with the final two taking place in January, the first legs will take place on Wednesday 8 January with the second legs following a month later on Wednesday 5 February.

Meanwhile, the League Cup final has been pushed back in the English football calendar and will take place on Sunday 16 March. Barring the rearranged 2021 edition of the final, which was moved to accommodate more supporters during the coronavirus pandemic, it will mark the latest the final has taken place since 1999.

While Liverpool won’t know their Champions League group, League Cup third round and FA Cup third round opponents until later this year, the Reds at least now know how their preliminary schedule looks. And should Slot guide his side to an unlikely quadruple challenge, the Dutchman could find himself overseeing up to a whopping 67 matches during his first season as the club’s first ever head coach.

Such a total would be record-breaking and equal the longest campaign in Liverpool's history, level with Joe Fagan's treble-winners in 1983/84. The Reds recently competed in 63 matches in the 2021/22 season when challenging for four major honours, and have only played more matches in a singular campaign on four occasions. No wonder Klopp said he was running out of energy!
