Liverpool supporters will be watching transfer activity with particular interest this summer. Any business has the potential to shed more light on the upcoming Arne Slot era, and there has inevitably been some talk of potentially signing players with whom he has previously worked.

Any deal will need to be signed off at various levels, with Slot not set to be handed transfer autonomy. Michael Edwards is back with Fenway Sports Group to oversee football operations, and Richard Hughes is the new sporting director.

But that hasn't prevented a number of players from Slot's Feyenoord days, and indeed even earlier, turning up in the gossip columns. The link to Teun Koopmeiners goes all the way back to AZ Alkmaar.

Slot's link to Igor Paixao is a little more recent. The coach signed the Brazilian for Feyenoord in 2022, and he has been a key part of the Dutch side since then.

The new Liverpool coach is known to place particular importance on wingers, and likes to have a lot of them to rotate. And Paixao admits he has seen rumors that his old boss could target him as a signing for a second time.

"I only see this on social media. (The fans) don’t want me to leave Feyenoord, but it’s not up to me. Together with my business owners and board, we will decide the best path forward,” he told Ge Globo.

“I am listening and watching social media. Lots of people always tagging me and asking: are you going to Liverpool? I don’t know anything, I’m just waiting."

Paixao went on to praise Slot for the role he played in his own development, wishing him luck in his time at Liverpool. And he reaffirmed that Dutch football is "pretty cool", playing down the prospects of a move.

Liverpool.com says: To be honest, while Paixao might have been aware of these rumors, I wasn't! He's certainly not a player who has been extensively linked with Liverpool.

Nonetheless, the Brazilian has done well under Slot, and it definitely seems likely that the coach will want to sign someone in that kind of mold. He inherits some good wingers at Liverpool, but none who really thrive at putting on a spurt of pace and beating a man.

Could that see Paixao himself come into the frame? Probably not, but you never know.
