Liverpool has added a new fixture to its pre-season schedule, with Arne Slot’s first game at Anfield now confirmed.

The Dutchman is now in place as the club’s new head coach, and will take charge of the Reds for the first time next month as preparations for the 2024/25 season get underway. Slot gave his first interview with the club earlier this week, having been confirmed as Jurgen Klopp’s successor last month.

The former Feyenoord boss is due to meet his new players for the first time in just over a week as Liverpool’s stars begin to report back to training at the start of July. Those on international duty will meet up with the rest of the squad at a later date, with Euro 2024 and Copa America set to run until July 14.

Thereafter though, the Reds will jet off to the US for a pre-season tour, with Slot’s first game as manager coming against Real Betis in Pittsburgh on July 26. Liverpool then faces Arsenal in Philadelphia on July 31, before coming up against Manchester United in Columbia on August 3.

And an Anfield date has now been added to the schedule, with Liverpool facing Sevilla on August 11 in what will be Slot’s first game as head coach at Anfield, and the Reds' final pre-season outing. The 45-year-old has already had a taste of the iconic ground, and is looking forward to his first foray into the dugout.

“I visited the club once because I knew Pepijn [Lijnders], so I know how it feels when you are in the stadium,” he told the club’s media.

“But to be there as the manager will probably be a bit more different than being there as a fan. It’s going to be really special I suppose.

“I’m used to Feyenoord, which is a fanbase that is really enthusiastic as well and is known for the atmosphere.

“I’m hoping and expecting that this goes one level up, not only in terms of the quality of the players but also in the way the fans will back the team. Like I said, I’m looking forward to it.”

Liverpool.com says: Considering the Premier League fixture list hasn't been too kind with Slot's first game, it's good that he will get the chance to take charge of his new side at Anfield before the real business begins at Ipswich. Regardless of it being a friendly, he will no doubt get a great reception from the home support.
