Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has welcomed Arne Slot to the Premier League ahead of his first season with Liverpool.

Slot was appointed by the Reds as the club's new head coach earlier this year. The 45-year-old will follow Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout and will take charge of pre-season training later this month.

Liverpool finished last season with one major trophy with the victory in the Carabao Cup final and secured a third-place finish in the Premier League table. The Reds were five points behind second-placed Arsenal and will be looking for an improved outcome in Slot's first season with the club.

This month will see Liverpool face Arsenal in the United States as part of their pre-season plans. The two clubs will then meet in the Premier League with the first fixture taking place in October at the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta is currently in Marbella in the early stages of Arsenal's pre-season preparations. The Gunners manager has spoken about Slot's appointment as Liverpool head coach, and welcomed the Dutchman to the Premier League.

"I don't know," Arteta told ESPN when asked if he thinks Slot will make any changes at Liverpool.

"That's a question for him and the people that have decided to come here. Welcome to the Premier League. I think he is an exceptional coach."

The arrival of Slot also means that Klopp will no longer be in the Liverpool dugout. Arteta admitted that Klopp's absence will be noticed in the top flight.

Arteta said: "Obviously it is a bit sad to see Jurgen leave because what he has brought to the league, I think, is something unprecedented with his charisma, his way of playing and the moments he has created in this league."
