Arsenal and Chelsea are both after a new centre forward... but why should they settle for just one?

Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres are two of the hottest properties on the strikers market right now, with a whopping 68 club goals scored between them last season. Both players have been linked with moves to London, though securing their respective signatures will be easier said than done.

Gyokeres, 26, has a whopping £86million release clause in his Sporting Lisbon contract, and it'll take a similarly gargantuan sum of money to prise Isak, 24, out of Newcastle, despite the fact the Magpies need to raise funds in order to comply with the Premier League's financial rules.

That said, for anyone who can afford it, why not buy them both? I know playing two up top is about as old hat as Abe Lincoln's stovepipe, but if any pair of centre forwards can make it work, they can.

And don't just take my word for it either. Isak and Gyokeres, both of whom – lest we forget – are Swedish, say they absolutely love playing together.

In an interview with Afton Bladet back in September 2023, Isak insisted he and Gyokeres "compliment" one another, and said he feels "freer" when the Sporting striker is on the pitch with him. "I can move a little in depth and come down a little. [We] find a balance, it's a role that I feel secure in," he said.

Clearly, Gyokeres feels the same way, having told Borometern a few weeks later: "Yes, [my partnership with Isak] feels good. We get into a lot of good situations."

Words are cheap, mind. But the pair are letting their actions speak a little louder. Since those interviews Gyokeres has netted three times for his country (one of which was taken off him after Sweden's clash with Belgium was abandoned mid-match), and Isak has scored two.

Saying that, Sweden failed (you may have noticed) to qualify for the Euros, despite the fact Isak and Gyokeres are both arguably in the form of their lives. But that's nothing but good news for prospective buyers, who won't have to hold their breath over potential injuries or worry about a last-minute wondergoal jacking up the asking price.

Time will tell whether Arsenal or Chelsea decide to take a punt on one of them, and if either club is ballsy enough to bag both goal machines, Premier League fans could be in for an absolute treat next season.
