As the Gunners continue to rebuild their football department following Wenger’s departure at the last of last season, Overmars could be the next man through the door.

Head of recruitment Sven Mislintat expected to be given the role when it became available and looks set to leave the Emirates as a result of being overlooked, but Overmars has an impressive record at Ajax as their director of football

The Ajax academy has produced a number of top class players over recent seasons, including Spurs players Christian Eriksen and Davinson Sanchez.

Another former Arsenal player, Brazilian midfielder Edu, was heavily tipped to take on the role in his home country last week.
