Arsenal star has already given green light to Arne Slot as Liverpool open manager talks

Reiss Nelson is an admirer of Liverpool managerial target Arne Slot

Liverpool are reportedly in discussions with Feyenoord about the potential appointment of Arne Slot, who already has an admirer in Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson.

Arsenal's Premier League title rivals are preparing for life after Jurgen Klopp, who is set to leave Anfield this summer after a nine-year stint. While Rubin Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi have been linked with the Merseyside club, it seems 45-year-old Slot is their top choice.

Slot won't be short of options though, with Liverpool's sporting hierarchy, including the returning Michael Edwards and sporting director Richard Hughes, needing to make a compelling case. The Feyenoord boss is also said to be attracting interest from Bayern Munich, who will be parting ways with former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.

Slot's work in the Netherlands has not gone unnoticed by Premier League clubs. The former Zwolle and Breda midfielder led Feyenoord to second place in the Europa Conference league in his first year in charge, followed by an Eredivisie title in his second year and a KNVB Cup win in 2023/24.

Tottenham had Slot on their shortlist last summer but he opted to stay in the Netherlands before Spurs appointed Ange Postecoglou. However, there's one figure in north London who may know Slot better than most in the Premier League, reports the Mirror.

Nelson has spoken highly of his time at Feyenoord under Slot, reflecting on his loan spell from the Gunners during the 2021/22 season. "Holland was great for me," he said, praising the impact Slot had on his game.

"I felt like Arne Slot is a great manager. He really got me into my rhythm. He gave me a lot of opportunities to play and I excelled."

Nelson also touched on the challenges he faced off the pitch: "It was really cool, like I said we got to the final. It was just the little things with the personal life, not my family around, the Corona situation. So it was a bit tough. But football-wise, it was perfect."

Meanwhile, Liverpool are reportedly gearing up for negotiations with Feyenoord regarding a compensation deal for Slot, who still has nearly two years left on his contract. The Dutch club are believed to be holding out for a fee in the region of £8.6m.
