Arsenal 3-0 Bodo/Glimt FC LIVE! Europa League result, match stream, latest reaction and updates today

Arsenal vs Bodo/Glimt - LIVE!

Arsenal continued their flying run of form with a routine 3-0 win over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League. The Gunners came into the match off the back of an emphatic north London derby win and they picked up from where they left off at the Emirates.

Eddie Nketiah put them in front with a smart finish after Kieran Tierney’s shot cannoned off the woodwork and fell to him, before Rob Holding doubled the lead with a powerful header just five minutes later after a lovely cross from Fabio Vieira.

That quickfire double was added to late in the match, as Vieira got a goal for himself and sealed the victory after brilliant work from Gabriel Jesus. It leaves Arsenal top of their Europa League group despite having only played two group-stage games, with confidence high ahead of the visit of Liverpool this weekend as they made it nine wins from ten matches in all competitions this season.

Match analysis

22:32 , Matt Verri

Given Gabriel Jesus’ flying start to life at Arsenal, Eddie Nketiah knows his chances to impress this season will be few and far between.

It was a similar story for much of last year, when Nketiah was playing second fiddle to Alexandre Lacazette, but the striker is making the most of the opportunities he gets.

He certainly did his push for minutes no harm against Bodo/Glimt, opening the scoring in the 23rd minute and setting the Gunners on their way to a comfortable 3-0 win.

That was Nketiah’s 12th goal in his last 15 starts, but the most impressive part of his performance on Thursday night was his all-round game.

Eddie Nketiah’s post-match reaction

22:08 , Matt Verri

“It’s a good win. It’s nice to have a European night in front of our fans – the atmosphere was electric.

“We dominated the first half, dropped a bit in the second half but then picked it up towards the end. I’m pleased to score. I’ll just keep doing what I can to help the team.”

Goal that sealed it once and for all...

21:50 , Matt Verri

90+2 mins: Turner with a scrambling save, defending a bit desperate from Arsenal as they clear it off the line.

They want this clean sheet!

21:48 , Matt Verri

90 mins: Plenty of flicks now from Arsenal, who are enjoying these last few minutes.

There will be three more of them added on.

21:45 , Matt Verri

87 mins: Arsenal sensing more goals all of a sudden, Nelson cutting inside and goes for goal. Deflected behind for a corner.

He’ll take this too. Decent delivery, Gabriel heads it down into the ground and the ball bounces over the bar.

GOAL! Arsenal 3-0 Bodo/Glimt | Fabio Vieira 85'

21:43 , Matt Verri

That seals it!

Stunning footwork from Jesus, jinking away from the challenges in the box and he just keeps going. Draws the goalkeeper out, cuts it back to Vieira and he fires it into the roof of the net.

21:42 , Matt Verri

84 mins: Bodo/Glimt’s race looks to be run now - they needed to take advantage of that dominant spell they had early in the half.

Arsenal knocking the ball around with ease now, seeing this match out comfortably.

21:40 , Matt Verri

81 mins: A fifth and final change from Arteta.

Nketiah off, and Nelson will get about ten minutes to impress at the end of this match.

21:37 , Matt Verri

79 mins: Massive chance for Nketiah - he’s blazed it over the bar!

Odegaard slides a lovely reverse pass through to the striker, he’s clean through on goal but it’s a wild finish.

21:34 , Matt Verri

76 mins: Saka takes a bit of a knock and goes limping away, about the last thing Arsenal fans want to see.

Doesn’t look like it’s too serious, he’s fine to continue. Fluid front three from the Gunners, Saka now on the left, Jesus through the middle and Nketiah on the right.

21:32 , Matt Verri

74 mins: Jesus fires a low cross into the box, turned behind for an Arsenal corner which Vieira will take.

Holding in the box again - will he be the target? Who knows, it doesn’t make it past the near post.

21:29 , Matt Verri

71 mins: A fourth change for Arsenal, White on to replace Tierney. Tomiyasu will shift over to the left, White at right-back.

Still no sign of Nelson getting any minutes, despite Arteta talking him up ahead of the match.

21:28 , Matt Verri

69 mins: Visitors have got to be a bit braver in possession, too many passes sidewards and back to the defenders.

Pellegrino tries to change that as he skips inside, Tomiyasu slams the door shut though and wins the free-kick.

21:24 , Matt Verri

66 mins: Arsenal getting a bit of control back by just keeping the ball in defence and midfield, not doing too much with it.

They trust to burst into life, Jesus letting the ball roll through into the path of Nketiah but the forward can’t keep it in play.

21:22 , Matt Verri

64 mins: Jesus tracks all the way back, intercepting a pass in the left-back position.

Bodo/Glimt getting into so many good positions, but that final ball has been absolutely terrible overall.

21:19 , Matt Verri

61 mins: Odegaard plays it out wide to Jesus, who is keeping the width on the left.

He’s so sharp immediately, turning quickly and playing a one-two with his captain. Brought down, free-kick Arsenal on the left.

Simon Collings at the Emirates

21:17 , Matt Verri

Arteta spoke yesterday about playing Jesus and Nketiah together. Well we are about to get 30 minutes of it, with Jesus playing out left and Nketiah through the middle.

21:16 , Matt Verri

58 mins: It’s a brutal sight for Bodo/Glimt.

Saka, Odegaard and Jesus on for the Gunners. Xhaka, Martinelli and Marquinhos the three to make way.

21:15 , Matt Verri

57 mins: Big save from Turner!

Arsenal really under pressure here, pinned right back and struggling to get out. Pellegrino digs a shot out, Turner sees it late but gets down well to parry it away.

Simon Collings at the Emirates

21:14 , Matt Verri

Arsenal have been a tad flat after the break and Arteta is making a triple change. Jesus, Odegaard and Saka incoming. Quite the cavalry that.

21:12 , Matt Verri

54 mins: Sampsted catches Martinelli late, painful one for the Brazilian. That will be a yellow card for the full-back.

Bodo/Glimt back to pressing high up the pitch now, they’ve got a bit of encouragement from the last few minutes.

21:11 , Matt Verri

53 mins: Berg allowed to drive forward deep into the Arsenal half, plays it to Mvuka.

Something between a cross and a shot is dragged towards the back post, just wide and out of reach of the yellow shirts. Arsenal need to be careful here.

21:10 , Matt Verri

52 mins: Decent chance for the visitors as they work it nicely in the final third, fired straight at Turner though.

While it’s still 2-0, this isn’t done for Arsenal. One goal for Bodo/Glimt and things will be looking very different.

21:07 , Matt Verri

49 mins: Bodo/Glimt continue to try and pass their way out from the back, even though they’re almost getting themselves into trouble on every single occasion.

Saying that Arsenal nearly do the exact same thing, as Holding’s backpass to Turner is close to be cut out.

21:04 , Matt Verri

46 mins: Well that’s very nearly the perfect start to the half for Arsenal!

Martinelli breezes past his man, cuts it back to Xhaka. His shot is saved, falls to Marquinhos who can only head it wide.

Back underway!

21:03 , Matt Verri

Up and running again at the Emirates.

Gunners in charge

21:02 , Matt Verri

Arsenal with 12 shots in that first-half, three for Bodo/Glimt.

Not sure the substitutes bench will give the visitors much comfort - Jesus, Odegaard and Saka all waiting to come on for the Gunners.

Arteta may opt to keep them completely fresh for this weekend’s match against Liverpool though.

Rare goal for Holding!

20:57 , Matt Verri

Simon Collings at the Emirates

20:51 , Matt Verri

A good half from Arsenal, who have controlled and dominated the game. Nketiah once again has been impressive, with and without the ball. Tierney and Tomiyasu decent. Vieira bright in patches. All very positive.

HT: Arsenal 2-0 Bodo/Glimt

20:48 , Matt Verri

Another really impressive display from Mikel Arteta’s side, who show no sign of slowing down.

Nketiah and Holding with the goals that have put them in complete control.

20:47 , Matt Verri

45 mins: Just the one minuted added on at the end of the half.

Bodo/Glimt seeing plenty of the ball now, but not doing anything particularly dangerous with it.

20:46 , Matt Verri

44 mins: Arsenal look so dangerous every time they get numbers forward.

Xhaka makes the run to the byline, cuts it back into the box. Nketiah can’t make contact, but the ball runs through to Vieira and he fires a shot just wide. Not far away from finding space inside the near post.

20:44 , Matt Verri

42 mins: A vintage Xhaka moment for the ages.

He slips, ball gets knocked past him as Bodo/Glimt look to counter and he just stretches his arm out to pretty much catch the ball while lying on the floor.

A yellow card is swiftly shown.

20:42 , Matt Verri

40 mins: Marquinhos decides to take matters into his own hands, or rather his left foot as he drifts inside. Ambitious effort from distance, deflected and loops over the bar for another Arsenal corner.

Vieira with another brilliant delivery, header over by Nketiah at the back post.

20:40 , Matt Verri

38 mins: Chaotic couple of minutes. Nketiah wins the ball back and is through on goal, opts not to shoot though and tries to put it on a plate for Martinelli. Defenders get back.

Bodo/Glimt go up the other end and have their first shot of the night, but it’s dragged badly wide.

20:38 , Matt Verri

36 mins: Corner taken short to Marquinhos, his cross is charged down and behind. Martinelli will get another go with the set-piece.

This one is swung into the box, keeper punches it straight up. Tomiyasu loops the ball back up, Nketiah gives away the foul.

20:36 , Matt Verri

35 mins: Looks too close to get it over the wall, so expect full power. Xhaka standing over it so it’s unlikely to be something too subtle.

Vieira and Martinelli also look interested. It’s rolled to Xhaka, maximum power it is. Tipped over the bar.

20:35 , Matt Verri

33 mins: The Emirates has broken into the Saliba chant. No, he’s not playing.

Nketiah is though and he continues to look so sharp. He plays the ball forward, handball on the edge of the box from Wembangomo and that’s a free-kick. Yellow card too.

Not far away from being a penalty.

20:32 , Matt Verri

30 mins: It’s all Arsenal - Bodo/Glimt with possession at the back but unable to do anything more than that.

Been a perfect first half an hour for Mikel Arteta’s side. No stress at all so far.

The away end is no longer bouncing.

GOAL! Arsenal 2-0 Bodo Glimt | Rob Holding 27'

20:29 , Matt Verri

ARSENAL 2-0 UP!

Initial corner is cleared away, comes back to Vieira out wide. He curls in a sensational cross, Holding powers the header into the corner and Arsenal are in real control now.

20:28 , Matt Verri

26 mins: Will Bodo/Glimt push up even more after that goal?

For now Arsenal continue to look comfortable in possession, and they almost make it 2-0!

Gunners win it back high up the pitch, Vieira drives into the box and his effort from a tight angle is turned behind.

Simon Collings at the Emirates

20:26 , Matt Verri

That’s an underrated finish from Nketiah. He didn’t have long to react but his technique was spot on. Arsenal get the goal their play deserves.

GOAL! Arsenal 1-0 Bodo/Glimt | Eddie Nketiah 23'

20:25 , Matt Verri

ARSENAL TAKE THE LEAD!

Martinelli drives at the defence, plays it out to Tierney as he loses his balance.

The left-back fires an effort at goal, crashes back off the post into the path of Nketiah and he reacts in time to turn it into the empty net.

20:24 , Matt Verri

22 mins: Better from the Gunners, Martinelli finds space on the left.

Lifted in to the back post, Marquinhos and Vieira get in each other’s way and eventually they’re crowded out by yellow shirts.

Nketiah again almost pounces on a loose pass in the box - this time he’s a bit too keen though and the whistle goes.

20:22 , Matt Verri

20 mins: Tierney plays a great ball through to Xhaka, he has absolutely no interest in shooting with his right foot though and turns all the way back.

Arsenal crowd wake up a bit, trying to lift their side and get them going again.

Simon Collings at the Emirates

20:21 , Matt Verri

The away end here is literally bouncing. The Bodo fans are having a great time and making the most of their trip to London. There’s about 5,000 here (10% of the entire town’s population).

20:19 , Matt Verri

17 mins: Match has slowed down a bit after an open start, Arsenal not able to take full control.

Xhaka gets into a decent position on the left wing, cross in for Nketiah has far too much on it though. Visitors will be pretty happy with how this has gone so far.

20:16 , Matt Verri

14 mins: Sustained spell of possession for Bodo/Glimt at the back, Arsenal happy to let them have it in those areas.

Especially when it’s then passed straight out of play as they try to look forward.

20:14 , Matt Verri

12 mins: Visitors do look like they’ll be dangerous on the counter, getting plenty of numbers forward in attack.

It’s Arsenal who break though, Nketiah shrugging off a couple of challenges. Martinelli stumbles though and can’t keep hold of the ball.

20:12 , Matt Verri

10 mins: Arsenal hit the bar!

Lovely move down the left, Tierney hammers a low cross into the box. Falls for Vieira, who smashes an effort at goal - always rising and it clips the top of the bar. Out for a goal-kick.

As close as either side have come to opening the scoring.

20:11 , Matt Verri

9 mins: Brief injury scare for Arsenal, Vieira down after having his foot stood on.

Gets a bit of treatment and he’s fine to continue. Gunners still well on top, knocking the ball around with plenty of confidence. Nketiah in particular looks really sharp.

Simon Collings at the Emirates

20:08 , Matt Verri

A bright start from Arsenal, who look sharp and hungry. Marquinhos looking bright out on the right, making himself busy and linking well with Tomiyasu. Promising stuff.

20:07 , Matt Verri

5 mins: Nketiah drops deep and picks up the ball, keen to make an impact.

Curls an effort towards the far corner from the edge of the box, not too far away from finding it either. Just wide.

20:06 , Matt Verri

4 mins: Bodo/Glimt pressing right up the pitch, no sign of them just sitting back.

Arsenal playing through it though, so much space out on the right for Tomiyasu. Comes back to Gabriel, tries to play the pass in behind but there’s far too much on it.

20:04 , Matt Verri

2 mins: Arsenal with plenty of the ball in the opening stages, as you’d expect. Visitors win it back and play it back to the goalkeeper - Nketiah very nearly gets there first.

Worked wide to Tierney, deep cross is brought down by Vieira. Tame finish in the end, easily blocked.

KICK-OFF!

20:02 , Matt Verri

Up and running at the Emirates!

Here we go!

19:58 , Matt Verri

Europa League anthem has been blasted out - not quite the same as the Champions League equivalent, to put it mildly.

Anyway, players are out, handshakes done... we are ready to get up and running in north London!

Arteta’s pre-match thoughts...

19:52 , Matt Verri

“The focus is only on today’s match. Certain players have been knocking on my door because they want to play, they deserve to play and tonight is a good chance to show that.

“They have the willingness to help the team get better and to contribute to the team at the highest level.

“It’s been a while since we’ve had a European night here. It’s been brilliant from those fans and I’m expecting the same today.”

Not long to go...

19:47 , Matt Verri

Kick-off coming up at the Emirates in just under ten minutes.

Just one defeat in all competitions for Arsenal this season, that disappointment coming at Old Trafford.

It would be a big shock if the travelling supporters in the away end tonight came away from north London having seen their side inflict a second defeat of the season on Mikel Arteta’s side.

Warm-up time!

19:43 , Matt Verri

Big night for Turner!

19:34 , Matt Verri

With Ramsdale not in the squad, Turner gets his chance to impress at the Emirates tonight.

Bodo/Glimt have promised to attack and take it to the Gunners - if they stay true to that then Turner could be in for a busy night.

Elsewhere in Group A...

19:27 , Matt Verri

PSV lead FC Zurich 5-0 in the early kick-off in the group, with about five minutes remaining. Probably safe to assume they’ve got that one in the bag.

That would leave them on four points, alongside Bodo/Glimt. Arsenal just behind on three points, but have only played once.

Zurich will be left with no points at the halfway stage of the group.

Away fans have travelled in numbers!

Contract talks underway for key trio

19:11 , Matt Verri

Mikel Arteta has confirmed Arsenal are working to tie down Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba to new contracts.

The trio’s current deals all expire in 2024, but the three players all have options that could be activated to extend them further.

Saka and Saliba’s current contracts have one-year options, while Martinelli’s has a two-year option.

Nonetheless, Arsenal want to extend the trio’s deals, with Arteta explaining they plan to “reward” those who have been in fine form.

“Well, obviously we have to plan for the future and we are all working on it,” he said.

Plenty of fresh legs for Arsenal

18:55 , Matt Verri

So plenty of changes from Arsenal as expected. Xhaka, Martinelli and Gabriel the only three starting that also did so against Tottenham.

That means Nketiah leads the ling, Marquinhos starts in the front three and Tomiyasu and Tierney get their chances at full-back, while Turner starts in goal.

No place for Nelson though - he has to settle for a place on the bench.

Fighting talk from the visitors!

18:35 , Matt Verri

Bodo/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen believes he knows how to beat Arsenal with Mikel Arteta‘s tactics “not very complicated”.

The Norwegian outfit are looking to become just the second team to beat the Gunners this season, with Arsenal coming into the game off a huge morale-boosting victory over rivals Tottenham.

Knutsen watched both the north London derby and Arsenal’s win over FC Zurich last month, and feels both teams failed to do the basics required to beat Arteta’s side.

“I started watching Arsenal against Zurich to analyse Zurich. But my concentration and my gaze went towards Arsenal because I was thinking, ‘What the hell are they actually doing?!’ It’s just extremely high-level, high-intensity football with extremely high-level individual qualities. But when you get to see it over time, it’s not very complicated.”

Nketiah confident starts will come

18:18 , Matt Verri

Eddie Nketiah admits he has found it frustrating not to start in the Premier League for Arsenal this season, but he is convinced his time will come.

Nketiah signed a new five-year contract this summer after being persuaded he would get more opportunities to play at Arsenal.

The striker, however, has started just one game this season, with that coming in the Europa League against FC Zurich.

He is expected to start again tonight and Nketiah believes his time will come this season.

Asked if it was frustrating not to start a Premier League game yet, Nketiah said: “Yes, as a player everyone wants to play football.”

Emirates is ready!

Prediction

18:01 , Matt Verri

The Arsenal camp go into the match with maximum confidence and that will remain the case regardless of the side Arteta picks.

The visitors have made a strong start to their European campaign too, but with the likes of Nketiah and Vieira looking to impress and push their case for further starts, the Gunners should be far too strong in attack.

Arsenal to win, 3-1.

Arsenal team news

17:52 , Matt Verri

The Gunners continue to be without Emile Smith Rowe (groin) and Mohamed Elneny (hamstring), but Arteta has no other injury concerns going into the match.

Cedric Soares is now fit after missing the win over Tottenham, with the right-back set to return to training ahead of the Bodo/Glimt clash to give the Arsenal boss further options. Rotation is likely with the schedule so hectic, particularly as Liverpool visit the Emirates this weekend.

Eddie Nketiah should come in to lead the line in place of Gabriel Jesus, while Marquinhos will be hoping for more minutes after his goal and assist in Zurich last month. Reiss Nelson is also in contention.

Takehiro Tomiyasu, Rob Holding, Fabio Vieira and Albert Sambi Lokonga are all likely to be involved, having played a limited role in the club’s superb start to he Premier League season.

Arsenal predicted XI (4-3-3): Turner; Cedric, Holding, Tomiyasu, Tierney; Vieira, Lokonga, Xhaka; Marquinhos, Nketiah, Nelson.
