Arsenal 3-2 Manchester United LIVE! Nketiah goal - Premier League result, match stream, latest updates today

Arsenal won a dramatic Premier League classic through Eddie Nketiah’s late goal against Manchester United.

The Gunners, chasing a first title in 19 years, fell behind thanks to Marcus Rashford’s opening goal that set the tone for an enthralling game at the top of the division.

Minutes after the England international had opened the scoring with a driven finish from range, the home side were level with Nketiah’s close range header.

After the break, the tempo did not dip and Bukayo Saka gave Arsenal the lead with an equally brilliant goal before Aaron Ramsdale, usually so reliable, spilled a corner right into the path of Lisandro Martinez, who duly punished the home side from close range.

Still, as has been the way all season, Arsenal roared back. Nketiah, in for the injured Gabriel Jesus, ensured a dramatic three points for Mike Arteta’s side with a late strike to send the Emirates Stadium into a frenzy.

Arteta hails ‘extraordinary’ team as Arsenal make huge Premier League title statement

20:15 , Jonathan Gorrie

Mikel Arteta hailed his Arsenal players for an “extraordinary” first-half of the season as they beat Manchester United to go five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The Gunners have amassed 50 points in that time, becoming only the fifth team in the League’s history to do so.

Arsenal left it late to beat Manchester United 3-2 on Sunday afternoon, with Eddie Nketiah scoring a winner in the 90th minute.

The win means Arteta’s side are now five points clear of Manchester City at the halfway stage, and they have a game in hand on them too.

Simon Collings at the Emirates Stadium

17:57 , Jonathan Gorrie

Intriguing to see if Arteta goes to his bench in these final 20 minutes. He’s got the players to change it in Smith Rowe and Trossard, but this game feels so in the balance. One wrong move could swing it either way.

Malik Ouzia at the Emirates Stadium

Zinchenko’s influence has really grown since half-time. Some of United’s analysts are sat behind us and they are screaming at Antony to tuck in and track him.

Bold from Arteta but he had to hook White there. He was playing with fear ever since his yellow card - and that is not what you want against Rashford.

Rashford and Nketiah with the goals, though it’d be brave to bet against there being more to come.

Simon Collings at the Emirates Stadium

Feels like that yellow card has thrown Ben White off his game. He can’t be his usual aggressive self - and it’s allowing United to exploit that flank.

Mikel Arteta booked!

37 mins: The Arsenal boss is not happy with a challenge and his reaction gets him booked.

Richard Keys will be happy...

Malik Ouzia at the Emirates Stadium

17:05 , Jonathan Gorrie

I think Arteta’s fury at Shaw’s lack of a booking stems from the fact that Ben White is having to play against Rashford on a yellow. He wants the equation evened up.

Arteta is booked and the noise level goes up. Shades of Klopp and Anfield. Crowd feeding off the anger.

CHANCE FOR MAN UNITED!

Don’t know if it’s the clappers, but the atmosphere has been excellent - even when Arsenal went behind.

Malik Ouzia at the Emirates Stadium

16:56 , Jonathan Gorrie

Wan-Bissaka switched off at the back-post but it was a proper striker’s run from Nketiah, really alert and he wanted it most. A terrific response not only from Arsenal but from the home crowd to going behind - it’s been a real feature at the Emirates this season.

GOAL! Arsenal 1-1 Manchester United | Eddie Nketiah’ 23

23 mins: Nketiah nods in at the far post after Odegaard’s stunning delivery.

Malik Ouzia at the Emirates Stadium

16:52 , Jonathan Gorrie

United are leaving three players high even when Arsenal attack and it’s making it hard for White and Zinchenko to push inside and help sustain the pressure when moves break down. It’s a risky game but it’s working so far.

Simon Collings at the Emirates Stadium

16:52 , Jonathan Gorrie

A goal that sums up the confidence Rashford is playing with right now. He left Partey for dead there, stunning skill.

GOAL! Arsenal 0-1 Manchester United | Marcus Rashford ‘17

17 mins: Rashford gives United the lead will a BRILLIANT drive and finish.

Stunning.

Malik Ouzia at the Emirates Stadium

16:47 , Jonathan Gorrie

The speculation has started already and I’d be quite surprised if David Raya at Brentford hasn’t replaced either Hugo Lloris or David de Gea by the start of next season.

Malik Ouzia at the Emirates Stadium

16:42 , Jonathan Gorrie

United have got a bit of a predicament in possession at the back. They’ve got two centre-backs who are absolutely outstanding on the ball but a goalkeeper who is, well, not.

Simon Collings at the Emirates Stadium

16:42 , Jonathan Gorrie

Weghorst’s role for United made pretty clear in these opening few minutes. He’s basically acting as a wall, occupying Arsenal’s centre-backs and quickly setting it so the likes of Rashford can get joy out wide.

PENALTY CLAIM!

16:38 , Jonathan Gorrie

06 mins: Fernandes wants a penalty after being up-ended by Ramsdale, though nothing doing.

Malik Ouzia at the Emirates Stadium

16:37 , Jonathan Gorrie

I mentioned that battle between Wan-Bissaka and Martinelli before kick-off and we’ve seen it a couple of times already. Not sure Wan-Bissaka wants to be standing off him all the way from the halfway-line into his own penalty area like that.

Man United need to see this out

16:34 , Jonathan Gorrie

03 mins: Risk being blow away here if they can’t get control of the midfield, a job made far harder without Casemiro.

Wave after wave of Arsenal attack

16:33 , Jonathan Gorrie

02 mins: As has been a feature this season, Arsenal are starting like a train.

Absolutely dominating proceedings.

Quick start Arsenal

16:32 , Jonathan Gorrie

01 mins: Martinelli wins a corner, though it’s well cleared.

Simon Collings at the Emirates Stadium

16:23 , Jonathan Gorrie

Simon Collings at the Emirates Stadium

Arsenal fans are armed with clappers today. Can’t remember seeing them at the Emirates before. Presumably further evidence of the club’s attempt to improve the atmosphere here this season.

Malik Ouzia at the Emirates Stadium

16:16 , Jonathan Gorrie

Thinking about it, I’m a little bit surprised that Erik ten Hag hasn’t taken Casemiro’s absence as an excuse to pack his midfield, maybe by playing both Fred and McTominay and going with Rashford up-front. Tottenham’s midfield two was completely overwhelmed last Sunday by what is effectively the four of Arsenal.

Bukayo Saka’s pre-match message

16:11 , Jonathan Gorrie

Malik Ouzia at the Emirates Stadium

16:05 , Jonathan Gorrie

So it’s Scott McTominay who has been handed the unenvious task of filling the Casemiro-shaped hole in the Manchester United midfield, perhaps a slight surprise that he’s got the nod over Fred. Gabriel Martinelli’s perhaps not quite been at his best in the last few weeks but he’ll provide a stern test of Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s recent upturn in form.

Erik ten Hag confident Manchester United can recover from Casemiro’s suspension.

Erik ten Hag confident Manchester United can recover from Casemiro’s suspension.

“We have found the solution to beating them [Arsenal] but they are in the highest position, that is deserved,” he told Sky Sports.

“Really consistent, difficult to beat them but we did it. We have to be good to do it again. Details will make the decision.”

Trossard’s agent reveals how Spurs’ approach cost them deal for new Arsenal star

15:51 , Jonathan Gorrie

Tottenham missed out on signing Leandro Trossard after failing to match Arsenal’s desire to sign the Belgian winger, according to his agent.

The Gunners completed a £26million deal with Brighton to land the 28-year-old on Friday, having missed out in negotiations over new Chelsea star Mykhailo Mudryk.

But it were Spurs who were left empty-handed on this occasion in talks detailed by Josy Comhair, Trossard’s agent.

David De Gea fires shot at Arsenal as Man Utd shocked at Palace

15:44 , Jonathan Gorrie

David De Gea hit out at the Premier League scheduling ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Arsenal on Sunday.

Until Michael Olise’s stunning free-kick shocked Erik ten Hag’s side, the trip to the Emirates Stadium felt like a title-decider.

United were on course to go second in the League and move six points behind the leaders and a win at the Emirates would have seen them close the gap to three.

Ten Hag reminds Arsenal Man United already beat Gunners without Casemiro

15:39 , Jonathan Gorrie

Erik ten Hag has backed his Manchester United side to cope without star midfielder Casemiro for their trip to Arsenal on Sunday.

Casemiro is out of the game at Emirates Stadium after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season during United’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

Ten Hag is remaining upbeat ahead of the match with Arsenal, though, taking heart from United’s win over the Gunners back in September.

Arsenal title tilt not a surprise to Erik ten Hag as Manchester United boss hails Mikel Arteta impact

15:15 , Jonathan Gorrie

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is not surprised to see Arsenal challenging for the Premier League title.

The Gunners are currently five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table and have a game in hand.

United are eight points off Arsenal, but they will have the chance to close the gap when they travel to Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Ten Hag’s side beat Arsenal in the reverse fixture in September, winning 3-1, but he could see then that the Gunners would be a force this season.

Gordon Strachan: I predict a tight match at the Emirates, I think it’ll be a 1-1 draw with Rashford and Martinelli scoring

15:07 , Jonathan Gorrie

“I predict a tight match at the Emirates, I think it’ll be a 1-1 draw with Rashford and Martinelli scoring,” Stachan told Football Odds and Betting.

“Both sides are on top form but in recent seasons, United seem to get great results against the Gunners and I think the same will happen again.”

Where today’s match could be won and lost

14:58 , Giuseppe Muro

Standard Sport’s Simon Collings takes a tactical look at today’s heavyweight showdown...

Martinelli to target Wan-Bissaka

The resurgence of Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been one of the big surprises since the World Cup break, but now he will have to keep Gabriel Martinelli quiet. Arsenal always look to get their wingers one on one with their opposite man, and that will particularly be the case on Sunday, when Martinelli will look to cause Wan-Bissaka problems with his pace.

Coping without Casemiro

Casemiro being suspended is a huge blow for United. Fred is likely to deputise, but does not offer the same control as his fellow Brazilian. Arsenal will look to replicate the midfield dominance they had against Tottenham last Sunday, and Bruno Fernandes may have to sacrifice some of his attacking desires to ensure United are not outnumbered. Christian Eriksen will look to dictate the game’s tempo in the absence of Casemiro.

Nketiah faces tall order

Against Spurs, Eddie Nketiah was vital for Arsenal, holding up the ball and linking play well. He has developed his game to be more than a penalty-box striker, but United will truly test his growth, as Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have formed an excellent defensive partnership and look back to their best after their World Cup exploits.

Arsenal have turned Emirates Stadium into a real fortress, with the recent Newcastle draw the only points they have dropped on home soil all season.

This will be a tough test, against a United side full of confidence, but the Gunners’ attack looks too strong to stop at the moment.

Arsenal to win, 2-1.

Man United team news: Casemiro suspended

14:29 , Giuseppe Muro

Erik ten Hag will have to readjust his midfield with Casemiro suspended.

The former Real Madrid midfielder picked up a late booking in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace and will miss out today.

Fred and Scott McTominay are both options to replace Casemiro and the former is no longer at risk of a ban with the yellow card threshold having been raised to ten.

Wout Weghorst made his debut at Palace and could start again due to Anthony Martial’s recent injury.

Jadon Sancho is back in training but the game will likely come too soon for the England international.

Arsenal team news: Trossard in line for debut

14:23 , Giuseppe Muro

Mikel Arteta should be able to include Leandro Trossard in his Arsenal squad, although a debut in the starting line-up is unlikely.

The winger joined the Gunners on Friday from Brighton as part of a deal that could be worth up to £26million.

Arsenal believe they filed the paperwork before midday on Friday, meaning Trossard could be involved at Emirates Stadium.

“I’m really excited to get started,” Trossard said in his first interview with Arsenal.com. “This is a big club and I’m ready to show the fans what I can do.

“Everyone has seen how well we’re doing already and I’m here to help achieve their dreams - including myself.”

Gabriel Jesus is still out with a knee injury and Reiss Nelson has a hamstring problem, but everyone else is available and Arteta is set to name the same side that beat Tottenham last weekend.
