The EFL Cup remains the only domestic trophy missing from Arsene Wenger's cabinet but Arsenal look well placed to go far in the competition this season.

Norwich visit the Emirates on Tuesday fresh from a major victory in the ‘Old Farm derby’ over Ipswich, but Arsenal finally hit form of their own in the 5-2 demolition of Everton at Goodison Park mere hours later.

That win saw Arsene Wenger field his formidable first-choice front three of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and record signing Alexandre Lacazette for the first time, but the Arsenal boss is unlikely to replicate that in midweek.

With their Europa League run proving Arsenal have the strength in depth to compete on multiple fronts, Wenger will doubtless name a strong side supplemented by the best of the academy.

Team news

Wenger is unlikely to be able to welcome back any of Arsenal’s long-term injury absentees to the squad but equally his side suffered no new setbacks in putting Everton to the sword at Goodison Park.

Shkodran Mustafi, David Ospina, Danny Welbeck and Calum Chambers are all unavailable until after the international break. With that duo out, Mathieu Debuchy could return to the back three having made his first Arsenal appearance in nearly a year during the 1-0 Europa League win at Red Star Belgrade.

Perhaps the most intriguing selection dilemma facing Wenger is whether to retain Jack Wilshere in his second string selection or hand him the promotion to the first XI that Arsenal fans have been demanding. After Thursday’s virtuoso display in Belgrade it is hard to see how he can resist.

Norwich boss Daniel Farke has named strong sides for the Canaries’ wins over Charlton and Brentford and is likely to continue as he looks for a third win in three EFL Cup ties against London sides.

Predicted line-ups

Arsenal starting XI: Cech; Debuchy, Mertesacker, Holding; Nelson, Coquelin, Elneny, Maitland-Niles; Walcott, Iwobi, Giroud

Norwich starting XI: Gunn; Pinto, Klose, Zimmermann, Stiepermann; Trybull, Reed; Hoolahan, Maddison, Murphy; Jerome
