Arsenal 1-0 PSV LIVE! Xhaka goal - Europa League result, match stream and latest updates today
The Gunners are tonight looking to confirm their place in the Europa League knockout stages against their fiercest Group A rivals. A draw at the Emirates Stadium would be enough for Arsenal, while another victory would all but secure top spot in the group and a February two-legged play-off tie against a Champions League dropout.
Tonight’s match was originally scheduled for September but had to be postponed in the wake of The Queen’s death and the subsequent demands on a stretched police service across London. PSV, whose manager is former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, will be no pushovers.
Mikel Arteta had both Gabriel Martinelli and Oleksandr Zinchenko undergo late fitness tests, which only the former passed for a place on the bench. Zinchenko continues to nurse a similar complaint, which has now ruled him out of Arsenal’s last five matches. Follow the game LIVE below with Standard Sport’s dedicated match blog and Simon Collings at the Emirates!

Arsenal XI: Martinelli benched
Score prediction: Arsenal to win, 3-1
Arsenal FC 1 - 0 PSV Eindhoven
20:03 , Alex Young
Cody Gakpo was tonight supposed to show England what he had to offer. Takehiro Tomiyasu had other ideas.

19:47 , Alex Young
90min: Four minutes added on.
19:44 , Alex Young
85min: Marquinhoes does replace Saka.
19:41 , Alex Young
83min: Marquinhos is coming on, surely for Saka.
19:41 , Alex Young
80min: Another chance for Saka, who opts to ignore Martinelli and tests Benitez on the angle, inside the area. The keeper makes a fine save as Martinelli lets his own feelings known.

19:36 , Alex Young
“Don’t underestimate that finish from Xhaka. The ball is behind him, on his wrong foot, on the hall volley, and he finds the corner. The comeback story continues.”
19:33 , Alex Young
76min: Martinelli does come on, but not for Saka. Jesus makes way. White replaces Tomiyasu.
19:32 , Alex Young
74min: A slight injury concern for Saka, who appears to be clutching his thigh.
Martinelli is warming up.
Xhaka goal

That is a delightful finish from Granit Xhaka! 💫

GOAL!
19:29 , Alex Young
70min: He can’t stop scoring! A fine finish from Xhaka on the half volley after Tomiyasu makes space on the right.
Breakthrough. Arsenal are heading for the knockout stages.
Simon Collings at the Emirates
19:25 , Alex Young
“Arteta probably would have preferred to give Odegaard and Partey the night off here, but needs must. Arsenal will want to head to Holland next week with a win and five points clear of PSV.”
19:25 , Alex Young
68min: Odegaard and Partey are on for Vieira and Lokonga.
19:24 , Alex Young
67min: First, though, Nketiah drives forward for his best chance of the game, but his shot is across goal.
19:23 , Alex Young
66min: Odegaard and Partey coming on.
19:22 , Alex Young
64min: Arsenal are starting to cook, here. PSV can’t get out of their half as the hosts push them further back. Saka this time tries his luck from distance, and it looks goal-bound before a PSV head clears.
19:19 , Alex Young
61min: Arsenal really pushing now! Jesus forced Benitez into a full-strength save after more clever work from Vieira and Saka.
Simon Collings at the Emirates
19:14 , Alex Young
"Better from Arsenal at the start of the second half. Jesus and Saka both combine well on two occasions. Tame efforts at the end, though."
19:13 , Alex Young
56min: Seconds later, Jesus looks to have carved open a similar chance before tripping outside the area. He’s claiming a foul but the referee isn’t having it.
19:12 , Alex Young
55min: A shot on target!
Saka goes through and looks certain to slot past Benitez in the PSV goal, but the keeper saves well with his legs.
19:10 , Alex Young
52min: That’s more like it! Saka (who else?) sparks the attack into life with some quick feet to the right of the penalty area. He feeds Jesus, who shows even quicker feet to skip past a tackle and towards goal, only to be thwarted at the last around six yards out.
19:07 , Alex Young
49min: Not much urgency in the opening stages of the second half. PSV showing more attacking threat, at least.
19:02 , Alex Young
Back underway. No changes.
19:02 , Alex Young
The teams are back out.
18:52 , Alex Young
So, nine shots from Arsenal but not one on target. PSV doing enough to keep their hosts at bay, for now. I remain unconvinced how long that will last for, though.
Half-time!
18:48 , Alex Young
47min: That’s your lot, for now.
18:46 , Alex Young
45min: Arsenal attack coming through solely Saka at the moment. He nicks the ball off a PSV defender near the corner flag and ducks into the area but his shot is blocked.
Out of nothing, that.
One minute added on.
Simon Collings at the Emirates
18:42 , Alex Young
“A reminder PSV are the top scorers in Holland. Arsenal are the second top scorers in England. 40 minutes and still no shots on target.”
18:42 , Alex Young
43min: Seconds later, Saka is at it again on the edge of the area to win a free kick.
After a long pause, Vieira bends the free kick towards the near bottom corner but it whistles wide.
18:40 , Alex Young
40min: Arsenal clicking now and it almost brings the first goal.
Saka drives across goal, skipping past three challenges before feeding Nketiah, who can’t find Jesus in front of goal.
18:36 , Alex Young
35min: Penalty check for Arsenal after Saka’s shot is deflected behind. VAR take a quick look but nothing doing.
Saka takes the corner and it’s juuuuuust over Gabriel’s head. Arsenal pushing.
Simon Colling at the Emirates
18:31 , Alex Young
“This game has felt very much destined for 0-0 so far, but Arsenal starting to click through the gears a little. Most joy coming down the right, where Saka and Vieira look lively.”
18:31 , Alex Young
30min: Oof, better from Arsenal as Jesus is a whisker away from connecting with a volley inside the area after a fine ball over the top from Saka.
Crowd livening up.
18:26 , Alex Young
26min: You can't blame Arsenal fans from staying away based on the first 25 minutes.
Not a classic, so far.
18:22 , Alex Young
22min: A Vieira corner is whipped in towards Tomiyasu, but PSV clear at the second attempt.
18:21 , Alex Young
20min: First real sight of goal for Arsenal. Jesus is found with his back to goal on the edge of the area, one touch, a spin and he drags a shot wide.
It’s Jesus’ first start in Europe for Arsenal, he’ll no doubt want to mark that with a goal.
Simon Collings at the Emirates
18:16 , Alex Young
“PSV looking a cut above Arsenal’s other Europa League opponents so far. Very organised at the back and willing to get forward when they can. Good start from them.”
18:15 , Alex Young
10min: Saka and Tierney combining well down the left, but nothing in the way of a clear-cut chance for the Gunners just yet,.
18:06 , Alex Young
5min: Home end filling up now, those rushing from the office appear to have got in.
PSV have barely touched the ball.
18:04 , Alex Young
3min: Arsenal on top in the early stages, with both Jesus and Nketiah seeing plenty of the ball. The hosts controlling possession.
Kick-off!
18:00 , Alex Young
1min: Here we go!
Empty seats
17:56 , Alex Young
Arsenal fans perhaps struggling to find the Emirates tonight.
“The Emirates looking a little empty with kick-off just five minutes away,” reports Simon Collings. “Perhaps a situation caused by the 6pm KO? The away end is rammed, though, with PSV fans in fine voice.”
17:54 , Alex Young
Almost time here. Teams are in the tunnel.
Tierney’s time to shine
17:40 , Alex Young
If Arsenal want to achieve their aim of becoming a team that fights for trophies on all fronts, then Kieran Tierney’s situation should become the norm.
Since joining the club, Tierney has been virtually undroppable, and whenever he has been out injured, the team’s dip in performance has been stark.
That, however, is no longer the case, as the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko has left Tierney fighting for his place. He has started just three Premier League games this season and it is why the Europa League has become crucial for the Scot, as he looks to win his place back.

Gakpo the danger
17:12 , Alex Young
One player Arsenal will know plenty about is Cody Gakpo, PSV’s young star who has already scored 16 goals and added eight assists in just 16 games!
Manchester United are reportedly sniffing around, and who could blame them. Ruud van Nistelrooy said recently: “His quality and form over the last three or four months has been exceptional. His stats and goals draw the attention of big clubs in European football.
“He is 23 and is focusing on his career with us at club level and having a great World Cup. He wants to continue that."
He starts tonight in an unchanged PSV team.
PSV line-up
16:53 , Alex Young
PSV XI: Benitez, Mwene, Ramalho, Obispo, Max, Sangare, Gutierrez, Simons, Veerman, Gakpo, Til
Subs: Hoever, Teze, de Jong, Madueke, Drommel, Junior, El Ghazi, Branthwaite, Waterman, Bakayoko, Moreira, Ledezma
Six changes for Arsenal
16:51 , Alex Young
Mikel Arteta made six changes. Granit Xhaka, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus all kept their places from the 1-0 win at Leeds as Matt Turner came in between the posts.
There were also recalls for Rob Holding, Kieran Tierney, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Fabio Vieira and Eddie Nketiah.
Arsenal line-up
16:39 , Alex Young
Gabriel Martinelli is on the bench.
Arsenal XI: Turner; Tomiyasu, Holding, Gabriel, Tierney; Saka, Lokonga, Xhaka, Vieira; Nketiah, Jesus
Subs: Ramsdale, Hein, White, Partey, Odegaard, Martinelli, Saliba, Cedric, Nelson, Marquinhos, Cirjan, Edwards
16:30 , Alex Young
It was absolutely bucketing it down in London a short while ago.
Well, you wouldn’t be able to tell. Glorious skies over north London.
Van Nistelrooy: ‘I kept Arsenal invincible’
16:18 , Alex Young
PSV manager Ruud van Nistelrooy missed a last-minute penalty for Manchester United against Arsenal during the Gunners' 'Invincibles' season in 2003/04, which would have won the game for his team.
Arsenal, of course, went on to finish the season unbeaten - a feat never since matched - and Van Nistlerooy just had to bring it up during his press conference yesterday.
“I expect a warm welcome,” he said. “I kept them invincible because of my miss.
"It's 20 years ago now. It doesn't define me but coming back to England and to Arsenal, memories come back of my time there and those two infamous games are part of it."
Score prediction
16:03 , Alex Young
Arsenal have not been entirely convincing in their last two matches, doing just about enough to get past Bodo/Glimt and Leeds.
But, back at the Emirates where the Gunners have a superb recent record, Arteta’s side should have the firepower to get past PSV and maintain their winning run in what is set to be an entertaining encounter.
Arsenal to win, 3-1.
Why was this match postponed?
15:49 , Alex Young
This game should have been done and dusted over a month ago. Policing shortages over The Queen’s funeral plans meant the original September 15 date was unfeasible and tonight’s new date was set.
UEFA told Arsenal they had to stage the fixture before November 3 or forfeit the game - handing PSV a win - so, with permission from the Premier League, the Gunners were allowed to move the fixture at the expense of their domestic meet with Manchester City, which had been due to go ahead last night.
Martinelli and Zinchenko latest
15:37 , Alex Young
Oleksandr Zinchenko remains a doubt for the Gunners as he continues to battle a calf problem, while Mohamed Elneny and Emile Smith Rowe are long-term absentees. Gabriel Martinelli missed training on Wednesday and could be another doubt due to his own calf issue and illness.
Arteta named a strong side in Norway against Bodo/Glimt and may opt to do so again to seal the Gunners’ place in the knockout stages. Even if he does, the likes of Matt Turner, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Eddie Nketiah will all expect to start.
