Arsenal Women have signed England forward Nikita Parris from Lyon.

The Gunners have paid an initial fee of €80,000 for the 27-year-old, but there is potential for that to rise by €20,000 due to add-ons.

The signing of Parris, who is part of the Team GB squad competing at the Tokyo Olympics , is a coup for Arsenal.

She returns to the Women’s Super League after two seasons in France.

“I think the most important thing was making sure that I chose the best club and the best place for me to really push on my career,” said Parris.

“Here at Arsenal, after talking with Clare [Wheatley] and the staff, it became apparent that it was here. Hopefully we can make more success here at Arsenal.

“As a striker, as a forward, you want to be scoring goals and the different ways she scored with heading, shooting and volleys, you want to take that on board. Her (Julie Fleeting) and Thierry Henry were my role models growing up.”
