Arsenal have got a busy summer ahead of them although so far things have been relatively quiet. With the European Championships and Copa America in progress, there are plenty of targets whose moves may be pushed to later in the window, with the added complication of the 30 June deadline for the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.

There is certainly a desire from Arsenal to strengthen, and have been told the club are confident that they will have a stronger squad come the close of the window. Finding the right players for Mikel Arteta’s squad, however, is key.

With that in mind, we are having a look at what the big decisions of the window will be for the Gunners and the three things the club must do to secure another successful summer. From potential clarity on the manager’s future to some surprises in the market, takes you through it all.

Sign the deal

While Mikel Arteta signing a new contract is not a specific transfer line it does have significant ramifications for Arsenal’s summer and their subsequent negotiations with potential targets. Players prefer to know who their future manager is going to be, and without signing a new deal Arteta has only one season left on his contract; securing the Spaniard’s signature will put the club in a position where they can guarantee managerial stability.

Looking at clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea who have gone through changes and then Manchester City who might have to say goodbye to Pep Guardiola at the end of the coming season, Arsenal would be strongly placed if they renewed Arteta. understands however that the club are both calm and confident over the future of their manager which will already bring plenty to transfer discussions.

Raise the floor

Upgrading the starting XI is an incredibly difficult task during this window with the likes of Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus clear and obvious additions in previous summers, but similar profiles have not been forthcoming in 2024. With that said, it is still key to strengthen and raise the quality of the floor and the depth of the group will better their capacity to compete not just for the title with City but across multiple other competitions too.

Players who are no longer of the requisite level need to be moved on and replaced. Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard perhaps stand out among the rest as needing better rotational depth and cover for their roles to allow for better rest across the season.

Find a hidden gem

Arsenal have treated supporters to plenty of surprises during transfer windows when players have been signed out of the blue with little in the way of initial known interest. Ben White, Fabio Vieira and Leandro Trossard were not spoken about until very close to their acquisition amongst others.

If there was ever a summer where surprises are near-guaranteed it could be this one. The question is, however, who and in what positions these surprises might emerge? Because up top the names are all out there it seems, with a shock name very hard to spot from this distance.
