It’s been 20 years since Villa won 5 consecutive league games, and albeit this run is in a lower league, the feeling still remains the same.

The scenes on Tuesday night after Robert Snodgrass sealed victory in the 90th minute against a very solid Sheffield United team, showed everyone just how much Villa supporters have enjoyed this fantastic run. Villa have turned a corner, thats for sure as this would have been a game last season we would have lost.

The experience of players like John Terry and Robert Snodgrass have made the difference this year, as the club now sit just one point off the automatic promotion spots.

Steve Bruce has now settled on a preferred starting 11, so it will be very interesting to see how much rotating is done over the next 17 games.

In particular, Bruce has a selection headache in the defensive midfield position, and keeping everyone happy is going to be extremely difficult.

Glenn Whelan dropped down a division to move to Villa, Mile Jedinak has been one of the most consistent players (when fit) and Bikir Bjarnsson has been an absolute revelation in the role in the past 3 games. And that’s before we think about Man United loanee Axel Tuanzebe, who’s preferred role is in midfield.

Bruce has more limited rotational options on the wings, but with Albert Adomah potentially needing a rest, it would be great to see Andre Green get some game time as he returns from three months out of the team through injury.

Alan Hutton has managed to become first choice left back, even though he has been told he’s being released at the end of the season. Hutton will be turning 34, and it’s probably the right decision and will allow the likes of James Bree to get more game time.

Villa are now hoping for their sixth league win on the bounce on Saturday as they host Burton Albion. Villa added Lewis Grabban on loan from Bournemouth on deadline day to strengthen Villa’s strikeforce.

It’s clear that Bruce doesn’t fancy Gabby Agbonlahor or Ross McCormack, and with Keinan Davis and Rushian Hepburn Murphy being inexperienced, Bruce has opted for an experienced back up that will push the in form Scott Hogan.

Burton Albion now sit bottom of the league, and its increasingly looking like Nigel Clough’s side are going to struggle to stay in the division, in theory it should be a comfortable home win for the boys in claret and blue, but we have a bad habit of not making things easy for ourselves.

Villa last won six games in a row in February 1990, and as Ron Saunders used to say, ‘are you going to bet against us?’
