Ballet at the boozer: South London pub to open with resident dancers

A brand new pub experience is opening up in London, with The Paxton set to reopen as a cultural hub in Gipsy Hill.

After opening its doors to the public on September 11, the venue will host a ballet residency from Rambert’s artistic director Benoit Swan Pouffer in October, as part of a new lineup of events.

Co-working spaces will be made available at the pub, while the opening weekend will host a supper club and live music performances.

Marcin Trykacz, formerly of Farringdon's Wilmington Arms, has designed the food menu at The Paxton, which comes from the team behind The Standard hotel and Notting Hill Arts Club. There will also be a large selection of craft ales from London microbreweries on offer.

Alan Grant, CEO says: “It’s a really exciting time to be opening a new venue, especially in a great place like Gipsy Hill which has such a community feel.

“With more people wanting to stay close to home we want to be that destination place which offers everything you could possibly want from a good night out right on your doorstep."

He added: "We’re serious about delivering great food, drinks and original events in a friendly and vibrant atmosphere.”
