Arne Slot is the new man in charge of Liverpool after the club confirmed Jurgen Klopp’s replacement less than 24 hours after the German’s final goodbye.

It has been known for the last few weeks that the Feyenoord manager would come in as head coach following the departure of the club at the end of the season. But it has now been confirmed that the Dutchman will start his new position at the start of next month.

It was an emotional afternoon at Anfield on Sunday as Klopp took charge of his final game in charge of Liverpool. And there were more goodbyes going on over in the Netherlands as Slot took charge of his final Feyenoord game before making the move.

Ahead of that match, Feyenoord released a video on their social media channels with Slot walking onto the pitch alongside pictures of significant moments under his management, as well as the Eredivisie trophy the club won in 2023 and the Dutch Cup that the club won this season.

In the video there was a voiceover with a message to Slot, it said: “Every beginning has an end, every end has a beginning. But the memories we made? They will last. Forever.

“From Drita to Tirania, from Rome to Madrid, from De Juip to the Coolsingel. We built up, and chased down.

“We experienced thrilling final minutes and historic Klassiekers. We stood strong in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, at Europe’s highest stage.

“We received compliments and won prizes. Now, we’re letting you go, Arne. With pride, we’ll build on the foundation you laid.

“Thank you for everything. For winning both the league and the cup. Thanks for the football, for the memories. Walk on coach, with us in your heart, but remember one thing..” The video then ends with the Dutch fans singing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

The fans also displayed a banner ahead of the game with a picture of the manager. The message read: “walk on, walk on.”

Feyenoord ran out 4-0 winners in their final game of the season. And the goodbyes continued after the full-time whistle. Videos shared by the club show the coach doing a lap of honour while waving and blowing kisses to the crowd who had stayed around to say goodbye. Pictures also show the head coach with a bunch of flowers and having pictures with his children alongside the trophies that he won for the club.

After the game, Feyenoord's technical director Dennis te Kloese praised the new Liverpool boss for the work he has done at the club. "Arne, Saying goodbye is always difficult, sometimes sad. But in this case, the pride and good feeling prevail,” he said.

"We are incredibly proud that you have been our trainer for three years. We wish you all the best and we sincerely wish you this step.

"On behalf of everyone here in the stadium and everyone who is not there and who cares about Feyenoord: thank you so much and incredible good luck. You deserve it."
