Barnabas Varga is in a stable condition in hospital after breaking "several bones" in his face.

The forward suffered a sickening injury during Hungary's win over Scotland last night with a lengthy delay to the match. He was hurt in an accidental collision with Angus Gunn from an attacking set-piece and hit the deck. He immediately received treatment as teammates held a cover up while medics worked on him.

Varga was eventually stretchered off, although other Hungary players chastised the staff for the length of time they were taken. He was then rushed to hospital for further treatment. The FA have now confirmed he broke several bones and was also concussed - he will have surgery.

"Several bones in Barnabás Varga's face were broken during the collision during the match, and he also suffered a concussion.

"The Hungarian striker is most likely to undergo surgery. He spends the night in the hospital in Stuttgart. The whole team is rooting for him!"

Scotland keeper Gunn was closely involved and said: “It was a bit of a blur. I thought I had to come and thought I’d done well. It was a bit painful. Hopefully the guy is all right. I can’t really remember too much about it.”
