Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Sydney Sixers has officially res-signed Caribbean all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite for the upcoming edition of Australia’s biggest T20 league. He was instrumental in their title run last season, claiming 16 wickets en route to the trophy.

Known for his big-hitting prowess, Brathwaite shot to fame when he took Ben Stokes to the cleaners in the 2016 T20 World Cup final. In the last over, he hit Stokes for four sixes in a row which clinched the title for the Windies. Although he is out of form with the bat, he still adds a lot of value to the team.

Speaking on his return, Brathwaite stated that winning the BBL 11 is one of his top priorities and it was tempting to come back to Sydney having won the title with them the last time around.

Obviously winning [BBL 10] and the team’s success last year made it attractive to want to come back. As you get older you definitely want to be somewhere you can hopefully be challenging for trophies but at the Sixers, there is a deeper camaraderie and sense of family atmosphere,” he pointed out.

“Hopefully the bond can help us to succeed again in front of our fans” – Carlos Brathwaite

The BBL 10 season was mostly played in front of empty crowds because of the covid-19 pandemic. Ever since the cases in Australia have dipped and the fans are likely to throng the stadiums once again. The atmosphere will be electric, and the cricketers are usually keen on playing in front of packed stadiums.

As a team, we went through a tumultuous season last year on the road without getting back to Sydney until the final, and we built a very strong bond. The BBL is one of the biggest T20 tournaments in the world and hopefully, that bond can help us to succeed again, this time in front of our fans at the SCG all season,” Brathwaite added.
