Ravi Shastri’s tenure as Team India’s head coach will come to an end at the end of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, scheduled in the UAE and Oman, and will take place between October 17 and November 14. With Shastri set to leave, the big question being asked is who will replace him at the helm of Indian cricket.

While a lot of speculations are going around, there has been no official confirmation yet. As it seems Ravi Shastri’s successor will be an Indian. It is believed that BCCI feels that an Indian is better equipped to handle the job especially the man-management part.

The new head coach will be an Indian,” a BCCI source involved in the process said as reported by The Hindustan Times. “Unlike the IPL, the Indian coaching job is a round-the-year job and man-management works out a lot better with an Indian coach.”

However, the possibility of former coach Anil Kumble returning to the post has been all but ruled out. The source suggested that the board has been in contact with leading Indian players regarding the process. There were reports that BCCI had approached Rahul Dravid to take up the role but the former India cricketer has politely denied the offer.

Ravi Shastri took over the role in 2017

Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri has occupied the post since Anil Kumble’s exit after the 2017 Champions Trophy. Along with him bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar are also set to depart. The strength and conditioning coach Nick Webb will also exit after the T20 World Cup.

Under Shastri, India have beaten Australia twice down under. However, they are yet to lift an ICC trophy having lost in the semi-final of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup and the 2021 World Test Championship final.
