Beat Black in shock Kyoto win

Beat Black stormed to a shock four-length victory with reigning Horse of the Year Orfevre finishing well back in the spring Tenno-sho at Kyoto.

The horse, ridden by Syu Ishibashi for trainer Hitoshi Nakamura, assumed control of the race with four furlongs left to run and clinched a famous victory.

Beat Black, a 159-1 chance, was expected to falter late on in the race, but Ishibashi timed the run to perfection as the horse won through.

Tosen Jordan finished second, while Win Variation took third with the fastest time over the final three furlongs.
