Beekmantown's Frechette gets 200th coaching win

Jan. 12—PLATTSBURGH — It was a special night for the Beekmantown boys' hockey team at the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse on Thursday.

The first-place Eagles (8-2, 3-0) skated to a 10-2 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory over Saranac Lake/Lake Placid and, in the process, presented head coach Justin Frechette with his 200th-career coaching win.

"Obviously, the most important part was securing the league points," Frechette said. "I was more concerned with how we came out and were game ready. It is like that for every game.

"I had some players on the bench looking back, smiling and tapping me on the leg. But we were focused on the task at hand. It was a special night, especially considering we were able to get most of our players on the ice to get some experience.

"All my players shook my hand. When you spend a lot of time with them, you build some special relationships. To have them say the things they said is what it's all about. It's what makes this group special."

The outcome of the game wasn't in doubt after the second period when the Eagles held a 5-1 lead.

Zach LaPier paced Beekmantown with three goals and an assist, while Sam Bingel also had three goals.

Keegin Rodier chipped in with two goals and Novak Jarus finished with a goal and three assists, while Caiden Columbus also scored a goal.

The Eagles, who had seniors score eight of their 10 goals, held a 47-19 advantage in shots on goal.

"We're on to the next one," Frechette said. "But first we have to start with a great practice.

"We try to stay in the moment and focus on the process. That is to keep our eyes ahead focused on the task at hand and our next opponent, which is Saranac."

Carson St. Louis and Ayden McCormick accounted for the SLP goals.

Frechette's program is built around combining Beekmantown and Chazy school district players. His career coaching record is 200-51-16.

"Honestly, it's the relationships I've built over the years with people who have come through the program," Frechette said. "Players who have played here and moved on, reaching out through text and phone calls mean a lot.

"I couldn't have done this without the people around me. From my players to my assistant coaches, Nathan Hebert and Dennis Harrsch. I owe a lot to my dad, Blake, who coached me for 14 years and has always been there. Most importantly, I can't do this without the support of my wife, Lisa, and son, Blake."
