Belcoo bounce back to pick up first league win of the season

Kinawley and Derrygonnelly recorded big wins again at the weekend in the third round of fixtures in Division One of the Ladies football.

Belcoo also recorded a win as they bounced back from defeat to Kinawley to see of Aghadrumsee 5-10 to 0-08 at St Macartan’s Park.

Early points from Ella McGovern and Eimear Higgins gave the O’Rahilly’s the lead and they struck for their first goal on 22 minutes when Sam Martin punished a poor kick-out.

Scarlett O'Connor and Sinead Barrett pointed, Abbie McGovern hit 1-01 and Sam Martin slotted home her second goal as Belcoo led 3-0 to 0-03 going into halftime.

Sinead Barrett, Aoife McCabe (2) and Dearbhla Murray clawed back points for the Magpies in the second half, but Belcoo would edge further in front as Martin completed her hat-trick before substitute Ciara Parker added a fifth goal late on.

There were ten different scorers for Kinawley as they ran riot against Newtownbutler with an 11-20 to 0-3 win on Friday evening.

Gemma McCaffrey netted a hat-trick and a point while Lisa Maguire, Danielle Maguire and Roisin O’Reilly hit braces.

Megan Murphy scored 1-03, Niamh McManus 1-02, and Keelan Murphy bagged 1-01 while there was also points from Aine McGovern (3), Lauren Murphy (2) and Joanne Doonan (3).

Derrygonnelly eventually eased to a 9-17 to 2-07 win over Tempo as Eimear and Bronagh Smyth led the scoring for the Harps while Blaithin Bogue hit 1-06 for Tempo, Cora McCaughey grabbed their other goal and there was also a point for youngster Hannah McNabb on her senior debut.

Sarah Jane Jones and Naomi Jones grabbed goals for Derrygonnelly with points coming from Brenda Bannon, Imogen Knight and Tara McLoughlin in the second half as the Harps sealed a second win in Division 1 as all eyes will now be on their meeting with Kinawley at Patrick McManus Park this weekend. Newtownbutler host Belcoo while Tempo play Aghadrumsee.

In Division Two, Ederney defeated Belnaleck 5-18 to 2-10 after the away side scored the opening 1-02 without an Ederney response.

Shanna Cassidy hit the game’s opening goal with points from her and Natasha Mills.

However, the St Joseph’s side recovered well and went into halftime with a 5-07 to 1-05 lead with goals from Katie Teague, Briege Walsh and Majella Walsh.

Further scores from Ellie Kerrigan, Dearbhla McMenamin, Sarah Britton saw them run to victory in the second half as Teague finished the game with 2-08.

Mills, Rachel McBrien and Aine McBrien tagged on scores for Belnaleck.

Enniskillen Gales powered to a 6-04 to 2-08 win over Lisnaskea in Brewster Park with goals coming from Gracie Elliot, Aoibhe Judge, Paula Mc Cool and Ciara O Donnell. Devenish defeated Brookeborough by a single point in a thrilling encounter on Friday that 2-13 to 3-08 in favour of the Garrison side.

Ellen O’Flanagan and Aisling Maguire hit two first-half goals for Devenish with O’Flanagan also pointing three times. Megan Wray and Caitlin Boyle were on target for the away side.

Aoife Wray, Aoife McDonagh and Aine McCarney added goals for Brookeborough but they couldn’t get the go ahead score as instead it was Hannah Murphy who struck the winning point, her third of the day.

This Friday, Lisnaskea play Belnaleck at Emmet Park with Ederney making the trip to Garrison to face Devenish.

Enniskillen will host Brookeborough at Brewster Park. Knockninny raced to a 4-07 to 1-01 win over St Pats in Division Three with Kinawley B’s also picking up a 6-14 to 3-01 win in Belleek against Erne Gaels.

Knockninny play Belleek on Friday in Teemore and Maguiresbridge face St Pats away from home.
