Ben Askren and Luis Santos to Rematch at ONE: Pride of Lions in November

Tumultuous 2015 Behind Him, Ben Askren Plans to Stay Busy This Year

Ben Askren will be putting his welterweight title on the line when he rematches Luis Santos in the main event of ONE: Pride of Lions. The event is set for the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Nov. 13 and will be the second time this year these two fighters have faced one another.

The first fight took place in April, but came to an anticlimactic conclusion when Askren poked Santos in the eye early in the opening round. The Brazilian was unable to continue and the bout was ruled a no-contest.

Askren (14-0-0-1) is undefeated in his MMA career and is regarded by many as the best welterweight on the planet. He is also a two-time NCAA Division I champion and a former U.S. wrestling Olympian, who also held the 170-pound title with Bellator.

While Santos (61-9-1-1) might not enjoy such a stellar reputation as the champion, he is vastly experienced, holds a black belt in BJJ, and has 35 KO/TKO wins to his name. Prior to the eye poke in the first fight, he appeared to be getting the better of Askren, repeatedly stuffing his takedown attempts.

ONE: Pride of Lions will be the organization’s ninth card at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. So far only one the fight between Askren and Santos has been confirmed – it was first reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal – but local fighters like Benedict Ang, Amir Khan and Angela Lee could all be in contention to feature.
