Ben Rothwell Feels Overlooked: ‘I’m Not Getting Any Respect’
Top 10-Ranked UFC heavyweight Ben Rothwell isn’t flashy. You won’t see his name in many headlines, but he was a bit more animated during his UFC Fight Night 68 bout against No. 13-ranked Matt Mitrione on Saturday.
“I guess you’ve got to make some noise. Right? I’ve got to get some attention,” he said during the event’s post-fight press conference.

The 14-year mixed martial arts veteran feels like he’s an overlooked contender and doesn’t receive the respect that he deserves.
“Inspiration, I think a lot of it comes from the writers right now in MMA. Constantly, I just feel like I’m overlooked and I’m not getting any respect,” he said.
The underdog role is something Rothwell has come accustomed to. He’s slowly grown to relish the part.
“Everybody picked Mitrione. I kind of get used to it. I like it. Keep making me the underdog. I like putting a loss on your picks,” said “Big Ben” told the media.
“I think for the next fights that I want, I’m going to continue to be the underdog. And that’s just fine with me because you see it doesn’t make a difference.”
Riding a three-fight winning streak, Rothwell wants higher-ranked opponents in his future.
“Now, I think I’ve made a case for myself. Things are different: three fight win-streak with three finishes. I think it’s time we make something happen and let me fight one of these top guys,” said the 33-year-old.
The two-time UFC fighter bonus winner wants a another crack at former heavyweight titleholder and top five-ranked Andrei Arlovski. Arlovski knocked Rothwell out seven years ago in the now-defunt Strikeforce promotion.
“I think Stipe [Miocic] has built a good case. I think he should get the next challenge. And I think Andrei Arlovski and I should dance. He’s ranked fourth, and some people are already talking about him getting the next title shot. So I think him and I should fight next,” said the Wisconsin native.

Arlovski last competed on May 23, defeating Travis Browne by technical knockout in the opening round of their UFC 187 main card match-up. He entered the bout with a leg injury.
“I know he has a little bit of an injury, so he’s going to be taking some time off. I’ll be ready for him when he heals,” said Rothwell.
