Bethe Correia Wants Another Shot at Ronda Rousey in 2016, Feels She was Criticized Unfairly

Bethe Correia rode a wave of animosity and an unbeaten streak into her UFC 190 headlining bout with Ronda Rousey on Aug. 1 in Rio de Janeiro. But like so many others before her, Correia came up short.

The Brazilian is already firing back at Rousey, saying that she's not the “saint” that she purports to be, and staking claim to a rematch in 2016.

“I was extremely criticized and judged by lack of respect due to a bad interpretation of the current champ. All that time I saw the real face of the current champ trying to pose as a saint while she always said publicly that she wanted to make me ‘have a meeting with Jesus,' which was her true intention. The media never gave that much coverage,” Correia wrote on Instagram.

Rousey seemed to be playing the promotional game a bit when she commented about the fight with Correia being personal and scheduling her a “come-to-Jesus meeting.” A few people had issues with Rousey's “come-to-Jesus” reference, but things escalated when Correia made a comment about Rousey and suicide.

Rousey's father took his own life, and while Correia denied knowledge of the fact, most fans and pundits heavily criticized her for the remark. Correia though says that Rousey is the one blatantly making classless comments about death and injury.

“I'd never would fight anyone with the intention to kill, break their neck, which is something there's no return from. I wouldn't joke about it, because wanting to kill someone is not caring about the pain their family would feel!” said Correia.

“So I tell @rondarousey I'm here and I'll fight for a rematch in 2016, stronger, more mature, we'll see each other again!”

Having lost in just 34 seconds in Rio won't make the road back to Rousey an easy one for Correia though. Yes, she won nine consecutive fights prior to the title shot, but the closest she came to beating a contender was a split-decision victory over Julie Kedzie, who was on the downside of her career and retired after their fight.

Correia will most certainly have to fight off at least a couple of the top contenders before she gets another shot at Rousey and the belt, but she believes it is inevitable.

“I wanted to fight you and I got it. I'll get that chance again and I'll have my revenge at the right time!”
