bettingexpert preview: Real Madrid v Manchester City

There’s no doubt about it, we were treated to a classic Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night as Atletico Madrid clung on to reach the final at the San Siro on May 28th.

Diego Simeone’s side just do not know when to lie down and, despite the fervent home crowd roaring Bayern Munich on, the Germans just couldn’t nick that elusive third goal.

The focus will quite rightly be on Antoine Griezmann heading into the final, especially with both of Atletico’s potential opponents struggling to find a consistent run of clean sheets this season.

We all know what happened the last time cross city rivals Real and Atletico met in European football’s showpiece event therefore Atletico will be hoping for sweet revenge in Milan.

Manchester City, though, will have other ideas. The stats might not point towards a victory for Manuel Pellegrini’s side at the Bernabeu, however they have a fighting chance of progressing.

Any team that can count on former Atletico star and rumoured Real target Sergio Aguero up front will always pose a threat, especially if City’s other star players turn up on the night.

The fact that incoming City manager Pep Guardiola was dumped out last night will give Pellegrini extra motivation to win the trophy outright - more motivation, if needed, coming in the form of a far from guaranteed fourth spot in the Premier League with Manchester United and West Ham lurking.

Looking at the bettingexpert tipsters, it is no surprise to see Zinedine Zidane’s outfit getting the majority of the backing to win at home after an uptick in form of late.

They have triumphed in 12 of their last 14 games across all competitions with Gareth Bale back in form and Cristiano Ronaldo fit to start again after being forced to miss the first leg through injury.

Even though Karim Benzema and Casemiro look likely to miss out due to injuries, Real should have enough in their locker to impose themselves on the game early on as favourites.

With David Silva ruled out for City and Yaya Toure doubtful, thanks to a thigh niggle, City will lean heavily on Aguero and class act Kevin De Bruyne to dictate most of their attacking play.

Should Plan A fail to spark, Raheem Sterling and weekend goal hero Kelechi Iheanacho have enough Plan B pace and trickery to test Real’s combustible centre-back pairing of Sergio Ramos and Pepe.

The bettingexpert stats are pointing towards Real Madrid 2.45 goals vs Manchester City 1.2 goals, which looks pretty accurate when you consider how erratic City’s defence has been this campaign.

Vincent Kompany may be back from his ongoing calf troubles, nevertheless his partnership with Nicolás Otamendi has been far from watertight with Bacary Sagna and Gaël Clichy also less than convincing.

The two opposing goalkeepers have both enjoyed decent seasons between the sticks, yet you get the feeling last week’s cagey 0-0 draw was a one off and goals will rain down in Madrid with Over 3.5 goals a distinct possibility for those looking for value in that market.

It is a mouthwatering tie for so many reasons whether you are a Real fan, City supporter or neutral therefore have fun looking at the different markets before the ref gets us under way this evening.
