Carlisle United fans gave us their views on social media platform X after the Blues' 2-0 defeat at Derby County on the last day of the season.

Here's a selection of their comments.

We were okay today without creating much. We’re better with McGeouch. I’d have Fin Back back if possible. Everyone out-of-contract needs to go. Simpson needs to decide those under contract he wants out. We also need better coaching. A throw-in coach for a few months for a start. (@ostrichtowers)

Like a lot of games, decent first half but then faded and offered little as an attacking force. Not embarrassed just...ordinary. IMO, Simmo deserves the summer & bigger budget he'll have to sort this out. He'll be gone by October if he doesn't. Expect to see a long released list. (@1StevieKilner)

Two poor goals to concede and not good enough in attack. Story of the season!! Need changes for next season, bigger, stronger and fitter players and play a better formation as 5 at the back has not worked, it's left us weak in the middle and up front! (@cumbrianbluess)

Not the worst performance, but is that how far our expectations have sunk. No one out of contract should stay. As to the others, Simmo has to be brave and ruthless. If he is, then we will have at least 10 new faces + loanees. (@BruceVander)

Symptomatic of the season, do ok in spells without looking like scoring and concede poor goals. Barring a couple of the January lads, Mellish and Guy no one could complain if they were told to find a new club. Big rebuild required and don’t think the crowd will be as patient (@parkinsonross)

Typically insipid performance. We were slow, easily outclassed for long periods and looked very tired. On player decisions, we need as big a clear out as possible. Very few to be retained. (@NotInSeddon)

Mass changes just to change the losing mentality. All out of contract players gone and all loans returned. Players publicly made available for transfer Monday. 6 -7 players gone the majority of those not paid up. 10-12 in. Major rebuild required. (@GreggBulman)

I’d like to see us have a squad with some presence in the team, starts with a keeper being able to command his box, two dominant CB, Kelly might be the focal point up top, we need speed, creativity, deadball specialist. Like to see us play more 1 and 2 touch passes with movement (@andrewhoddie)

Put the Pride back in the North. Great game to be at. Should have had a penalty, the fans deserved it because they are quality. If the players turn up like that in League 2, we'll have a great year. I hope we don't have a mass clear out. (@adydent67)

Some ground & some atmosphere. Carlisle fans an absolute credit to the club & the county today. Sang their hearts out all game. The two clubs did feel miles apart on & off the pitch today. But the future does look a lot rosier & it feels like solid foundations are being built. (BackOSkiddaw)

Overran at the start, looked better but toothless for much of the 1st half. Second goal finished us off. Relying on Kelly flick-ons and Armstrong chasing lost causes. A big close season in terms of recruitment and playing style to get us ready for league 2! (@CowellLes1975)

We lack everything, strength, mental strength, pace, creativity, players with size and physicality to go with it. Big summer ahead. (@carlisl9125)

Did ok in spells but never looked like scoring. Squad is a shambles from front to back, slow, unfit and bereft of any real spark or invention. Love Simmo and what he’s achieved at BP but he can consider himself hugely fortunate to be still be in a job. (@Halpinforpope)

As many out as possible. I’ve no faith that a team recognisable to this one can achieve promotion next season. (@lewisrids3)

Held our own in the first half and had chances to equalise. Would have been a different game if we had. Same old problem - can't put the ball in the net. Number one issue to sort out for next season. (@MikeEwins)

Personally I don't think it's the players. It's the direction and instructions they're given by the manager. It's been off all season. We need a change in the coaching staff. (@daverigg)

30 losses in the league baffles me how his kept his job, got a max of 10 games next season to hit the ground running. (@paulhayton9989)

At least we didn’t get malleted today but overall what a monumental embarrassment this season has been. Looking forward to next season as ever (@Glass942)

Unfortunately the squad that Simpson assembled is shown again to be inadequate, yet it looks like he gets the opportunity to get rid of the players he brought in and build another squad - madness!!! (@derekbaty)

Yes the players have not been up to Lg1 standard but to go 46 games, two transfer windows and not have any tactical identity has been a dereliction of management & coaching. Simmo has a world cup on his CV but that was with boys & an army of coaches and analysts.CUFC....Not! (@Andythehood)

Just hope either Irvings or Reays bus company have been told to have a bus at BP on Monday morning (@pjcm7777)

Thank god that's over. (@krisfoster)
