The second race in the Lostock AC Road and Trail Midweek Championship saw members head to Rivington to compete in the Coronation Trail Race.

Organised by Horwich RMI Harriers, it is the fourth event in the Central Lancashire Race Series.

The race starts at the side of the Upper Rivington Reservoir and heads into the fells. This is an out-and-back race covering six miles - the first half uphill with runners covering an elevation gain of 580 feet. The final three miles were downhill and this made for a fast end to the race. Participants were also energised by the fantastic marshals and support along the course.

The first Lostocker to cross the finish line, in 46mins 54secs, was Dave Parry, and he was followed by Mark Shuttleworth (49:09), Greg Kilshaw (50:42) and Andy Laycock, in 50:46.

The first female Lostock member to cross the finish line was Louise Read, in 51:05, securing third in her age category, followed by Nikki Hamerton (51:08), who was second in her age category. The third female was Rachel Hancock, in 53:00, achieving second in her age category. This was a strong effort by the ladies, and they secured third position in the overall female team results.

Other results: Chris Baker 51:29, Mike Ernill 52:11, Mike Berry 54:13, Heather Soden 54:51 (second in age category), Kerry Jackson 54:51 (second in age category), Tony Maxwell 55:33 (second in age category), Rachel Stevens 1:00:56, Lynda Hardman 1:02:43, Sheila Garewal 1:03:22 (third in age category), Mark Checkley 1:04:27, Karen Taylor 1:06:09, Gillian Caldwell 1:08:33 (second in age category).

Not content with racing on Wednesday, Caldwell completed the Carsington Water 7+ Trail Race in Derbyshire. This is a seven-and-a-half mile clockwise circuit of the Carsington Water reservoir.

The race is mainly on cycle tracks and is described as ‘flat in places’, however it includes undulating sections and these see participants reach an elevation gain of 125 metres.

The hot weather made it a humid and difficult run. Despite this, Caldwell had an amazing race and finished in an impressive 1:26:24, winning her age category.

Melanie Crompton completed the Chester Half-Marathon on Sunday. The race started at Chester Racecourse and participants ran through Chester city centre and out to the countryside before heading back to Chester for the finish. Crompton ran with her daughter Erin and they had a fantastic race, finishing in 2:01:36.
